Heavenly Steel

The Foundation of an Empire

Heavenly Steel, forged first from the metal workers of Gozz, is one of the strangest elements found in Eturia, there are many reasons for this. Firstly, the steel is only able to be made within Dithmarburg, more so the Southern Plateau, this is how the authorities of Dithmarburg can so aggressively control the use and market for the metal outside Dithmarburg. Secondly, the alloy for the creation of Heavenly Steel is unlike any other metal, formed by using a completely refined metal being resmelted and mixed with Heaven's Ore. Thirdly, the metal, while showing no apparent magical abilities, tends to both have a small sparkle and shimmer to it that almost appears to be magical. This last part has been the source of much debate since the material spread from Gozz.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Light grey, with a small sparkle in the metal, with a little shimmer.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Cold and extremely durable.

Compounds

Made from mixing Heavenly Ore and smelted Iron.

Geology & Geography

Heavenly Steel is only found in pure enough forms in the Dithmarburg Plateau. However within this area it is very common.

Origin & Source

Heavenly Ore is the important ore in the making of Heavenly Steel.

History & Usage

History

Heavenly Steel was first used in the construction of the Palace of the Heavens by Karl Gustavus Welf in 754. It was first used for building but slowly began to be used for

Discovery

Heavenly Steel was commonly used by the locals of Gozz for centuries, however after the formation of the Heavenly Empire it was spread from beyond this location.

Everyday use

It's primary uses are in construction of buildings and armaments, however this is only within Dithmarburg.

Cultural Significance and Usage

The Steel is commonly associtated with wealth outside of Dithmarburg, while within Dithmarburg it is seen as a symbol of central government.

Industrial Use

The Steel after alloying has to be moulded into forms for the use that Steel is being used for.

Refinement

It needs to be made from mixing Heaven's Ore with already smelted Iron, in a unique forge design only found within Dithmarburg, making the Heavenly Steel alloy.

Manufacturing & Products

Steel support beams and girders, firearms and cannons, safes and vaults.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Heavenly Steel is shockingly free of any sideproducts, however some have theorized that the fumes created in the alloying period could be useful...

Hazards

The alloy is obviously very hot when being made, meanwhile the question of if the fumes are hazardous are up for debate.

Environmental Impact

Generally the areas where the Steel is produced has more air pollution, and generally faces the same issues any mining of ore does.

Reusability & Recycling

It's not the most easily recycled or reused material, however those more determined types have found ways to do so, even if not the most effective.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Due to the monopoly on the market, the Dithmarburg Throne tightly controls the market, only allowing a small amount to be exported. This means only Dithmarian merchants can sell it, and and hugely inflated prices.

Storage

The typical temperatures of the Plateau are the ideal conditions for preserved Heavenly Steel, however it does not require this to be maintained at a high quantity.

Law & Regulation

Heavenly Steel exports is heavly regulated by the Dithmarburg Government, who control most of the market directly.
