The Ryft
The Ryft or Arctyx Rift is a cooler region of Valoreum located to the north of the Chaiyjussian Redwoods and is the the northernmost region of this continent. It is surrounded by tall mountains with few passes, and the lands beyond them are split between tundra and taiga. Due to its northerly disposition, it has a high attunement to Ice magic, and its winters are long and harsh. However, the strange and unusual magic also seems to inspire those who are of a bardic disposition. With both of these interesting features, its no surprise that the Arctyx who call this land home have a love for ice magic and seem to weave it into motivating music.
Localized Phenomena
Due to its attunement to Ice magic, this region is frequently glazed over with snow and ice. Winter lasts long and summer is but a fleeting memory. All the creatures that live within the region have some means of staying warm (like blubber, fur, or feathers), have resistance to cold damage and immunity to the frozen debuff (target is restrained and cannot use vocal or somatic components; prolonged exposure causes 1 level of exhaustion), and can innately use various ice spells. Some may even be able to understand and speak primordial (gelan).
Whenever Ice magic is used within this region, the target of damaging spells is instantly frozen. Non-damaging ice spells have double their effect or duration. Ice-related abilities also possess this similar effect.
