Jorundarja

Jorundarja is the capital of both the Indel Plain Hold and the nation of Indeljar. Nestled on the northern shore of the Lake of Arctus, this city not only acts as an important geopolitical hub, but it also sits exactly in the center of Indeljar, making it an important trading hub that intersects almost all of the trade routes to the other holds. Due to this, it is the largest and most populous city in Indeljar.

Defences

Jorundarja has a massive wall surrounding most of it made of andesitic stone, as well as a host of highlly trained guards and a standing army stationed out of the Gate of Three Towers.

Districts

  1. West Jorun: A Residential District housing a majority of the city's noble houses. 
  2. North Jorun: The Historic center of the city of Jorun. Though it is not strictly dominated by nobility, most residents are wealthy or well enough off to afford living in such places.
  3. East Jorun: A middle-class district that counts as Jorundarja's Downtown district. Lost of pedstrian and commercial traffic, as well as the city's Colosseum and various Arenas.
  4. Darja: The Historic center of the city of Darja, and is located outside of the city's walls. It is also home to most of Jorundarja's entertainment.
  5. Glassbrook: Part of Jorundarja's dock districts, Glassbrook is home to most of Jorundarja's fishing industry, and as such, all of its fishing markets. 
  6. Ginnolnem Market: The primary market and business hub of Jorundarja, almost all of Indejar's trade runs through this district, leading it to be the most trafficked part of the city. It is also the home to the Indeljarran National Bank's primary branch, making this district the most important for any merchant. 
  7. Ginnolnem Docks: A subsect of the dock districts that is used exclusively for the transport of goods along the Indel River. You can't go anywhere on the water without going through this dock region.
  8. Gate of the Three Towers: The main gate leading West to Seddas. It is also known to be the base of the National Army.
  9. Winter Town: The main gate leading north/west towards the Bay of Hope and Eldyrdale. It is used primarly as a transient town for those who can't travel during Indeljar's terrible winters. Mainly used as housing for Merchants. 
  10. Mammoth Gate: The main gate leading north to the majority of the Indel Plain. It gets its name from the extensive livestock herds that are trafficked during certain times of the year.
  11. South/Indel Gate: The main gate leading east to the town of Morvagr. It is mostly home to herders and farmers, as well as lower class individuals.

Points of interest

  1. Iceblood Castle: Seat of the High King's and the Jarl of the Indel Plain's Rule. Holds political and militaristic power.
  2. Ghost Grove: A Cemetary for nobles. It is said that the trees here come from the Immaterial Plane and can only be grown on the corpses of valiant heroes and shrewd politicans.
  3. Colosseum of Jorundarja: A Colosseum designed for the use of powerful mounts and mages. It is entirely modulated for events.

Architecture

Jorundarja is a city of masonry, sitting on a andesitic dike. Almost all houses are made of this material, making the city itself highly resistant to damage.

Climate

The city itself has a relatively normal climate (for Indeljar), however the freezing of the Lake of Arctus during the worst of the winter months can cause damage to the docks as ice sheets rub into them.
