Beleth
Epitaphs: The Laughing Man, Lord of Pain, The Horned King, Blackjester
Most mortals fear the Arch Daemons but, conversely, Beleth finds mortals atrociously funny. He delights in torturing them with their worst fears, knowing that the terror induced is often far worse than the actual threat. His followers are rulers who terrorize their people, priests who hold sway over the superstitious, and anyone who holds power through fear. Every single one is eventually driven to fear those they rule.Beleth appears as a horned, grey-skinned man with pointed features, jet-black eyes, and a horrendously wide smile that drips black ichor. Spiked chains encircle his arms and legs.
P. 193 Grim Hollow Campaign GuideThe Arch Daemon of Fear goes by other names: the Trickster, the Laughing Man, and Blackjester. Beleth’s goal is to spread fear throughout the world, and in this regard he has far surpassed his former master. Beleth derives pleasure from torturing mortals with their worst fears. He’s the patron of tyrants and oppressors everywhere, but Beleth’s cruel practical joke is that every one of these people end up fearing the very people they oppress. To him, it’s eternally funny.
Beleth has no fear of Empyreus, and any who mentions the Arch Seraphs causes Blackjester to smirk, as if from a private joke.
P. 35 Grim Hollow Players Guide Rising oppressive empires, violent religious movements, the Gods End, a country of Vampires, a coming coldfire cataclysm... it's easy to see why fear is plentiful in Etharis. Beleth may be seen as evil for aligning with fear, but he sees things differently. He teaches morality tales with his punishments, and makes sure those who gain power through fear know all too well, eventually, what fear feels like.Divine Domains
