Chapel of Saint Theresia

Our duty is to take care of those who cannot take care of themselves. After all, aren't we all children of the gods ? Now stop hesitating and give me those bandages before he bleeds all his remaining blood.

A Safe Haven

The chapel of Saint Theresia is a building belonging to the Covenant of Vesta. It is a place for the weary traveler to rest, and a place for the sick and wounded to heal. All sisters are dedicated to helping those in need, be it by giving them food or shelter, or giving them much-needed medical assistance. It is rumored to be the place that Saint Theresia made her first miracle by healing the entire village of Caburn.

Despite its moderate size and manpower, it is a good place for the sick and elderly to get treatment, as the sisters are trained to have good medical skills. The Apothecarian has many assistants and can heal even the most condemned using healing prayers and more classic medicine, for an effective combination. Any adventurers or travelers can rest there.

Purpose / Function

The chapel has been built with the purpose of thanking Saint Theresia for what she did, as well as to build a safe haven for those in need. Sometimes people don't come for physical healing, but for a mental one. Either way, the doors are always open for them. They may not be as equipped to treat mental diseases, but they can redirect people towards better-equipped sisters, or give some comfort to those who had a rough week.

Architecture

The chapel is made out of granite, with marble slabs forming a pattern on the floor. The entire chapel is surrounded by a garden, growing roses on the public side and medicinal herbs on the private one. There are statues of Saint Theresa at the entrance and in the middle of the court. Other than that, it is built like a classic chapel, except that the medical ward is considerably larger.

History

Built-in 235 by the villagers of Caburn, it was created in honor of Saint Theresia, that sacrificed almost all her life force to heal the village. When she arrived, the village was in bad shape, as a bandit warlord launched a raid earlier in the month, and many of the survivors were in grave need of help. So Saint Theresia invoked the power of Vesta and let it flow through her body to heal the village. Wounds disappeared, limbs regrew and crumbling buildings reassembled themselves. However, this effort was so straining that she fainted and went into a deep sleep for several months. The villagers cared for her, and built this chapel in her honor, invigorated by the energies she gave them.

When the bandits came back, they were shocked to see the state of the village and tried to destroy the chapel in retribution. That is when Saint Theresa woke up and performed her second miracle. As the villagers tried to fight the invaders, a holy light covered the battlefield. From the sky, angels of retribution swooped in on the attackers, and the villagers' wounds all healed. The bandits, knowing that the tide was turning, fled and promised Saint Theresa that they'll never try to attack the village again, some even converting to her faith.

Since then, the chapel has been an integral part of the village, dominating the hill and acting as a beacon. Many people go there to have their injuries treated, and no bandit ever came for a fight. No matter who is coming, and from where the sisters will always make sure that there is room for them to rest.

Tourism

Many pilgrims come there to collect themselves on the tomb of Saint Theresia, as she is a famous Saint for the Covenant of Vesta. Particularly religious travelers also stay a night or two before going back to adventuring.

Saint's resting place

Deep within the sanctuary is the sarcophagus containing the preserved body of Saint Theresia. Its presence strengthen the power of prayers inside of the chapel. It is also the place where the leader of the chapel can meditate for guidance. It is rumored that her spirit still lingers in the chapel and watches over it and the sisters.
