Drakhor

Drakhor is the collective name for the clans that inhabit the untamed lands of Drakthar. The term originates from the Orcish language, where “Drak” means free and “Hor” means people, translating to “The Free People.” United by a shared belief in self-determination and resistance to external control, the Drakhor are a diverse and fiercely independent society that values strength, honor, and unity in the face of adversity.

Origins and History

The origins of Drakhor trace back to the First Imperial Civil War (395 AC - 401 AC), when exiles, escaped slaves, and warriors fleeing the oppressive rule of the Aurelian Empire sought refuge in the wilds of Drakthar. Over time, these outcasts formed alliances, adopting the ways of the orcish clans who had long called Drakthar home. As more settlers arrived, the need for cooperation and mutual defense led to the formation of the Drakhor, an Alliance of clans bound by their rejection of tyranny and their commitment to freedom.

Despite their reputation as lawless rebels, the Drakhor are not without structure. Leadership is earned through strength, wisdom, and the ability to command respect, rather than noble birthright or wealth. Decisions affecting the whole of Drakthar are made in councils of warriors, chieftains, and elders, ensuring that no single ruler holds absolute power.

Social Structure and Governance

The Drakhor are composed of many different clans, each with its own customs, traditions, and leadership. While some clans consist mostly of orcish bloodlines, others are made up of a mix of humans, elves, goblins, gnomes and other races who have embraced the Drakhor way of life.

Key Aspects of Drakhor Society:

  • Clan Autonomy: Each clan governs itself, choosing its own leaders and setting its own laws, but all are bound by the core principles of the Drakhor.
  • Warrior Code: Honor and personal strength are deeply valued, with warriors proving their worth through combat, strategy, and survival skills.
  • Council of Elders and Warlords: Major decisions are made through gatherings of respected leaders, where disputes are settled and alliances forged.
  • Trial by Challenge: Leadership positions are often determined through physical or mental trials, ensuring that only the most capable lead.

Culture and Traditions

Drakhor culture is built around the idea that freedom must be earned and defended. While they value individual strength, they also emphasize the importance of unity when facing external threats.

  • Rite of the First Hunt: A coming-of-age ritual where young warriors must track and bring down a formidable beast to prove their skill.
  • Feast of the Unchained: A grand celebration honoring the ancestors who first defied oppression and established the Drakhor way of life.
  • Tattoos of the Freed: Many Drakhor warriors mark their bodies with tattoos that tell the story of their personal struggles and victories.
  • Songs of the Storm: Oral traditions that recount great battles, legendary warriors, and the history of their people, passed down through generations.

Relations with Other Factions

The Drakhor’s fierce independence has made them both feared and respected by other factions across Leo. While they have no desire for conquest, they are quick to retaliate against those who attempt to subjugate them.

  • Aurelian Empire: Considered their greatest enemy, the Drakhor have fought off multiple imperial attempts to conquer Drakthar.
  • Nomads of Dunelar: Trade and occasional alliances exist between Drakhor clans and the wandering tribes of Dunelar, especially in times of mutual need.
  • Magisters: The Drakhor are wary of the Magisters, viewing their pursuit of knowledge with suspicion, though some clans seek their wisdom on matters of magic.
  • Pirates and Raiders: The western coast of Drakthar harbors many pirates and mercenaries, some of whom have allied with the Drakhor for mutual benefit.
