Alliance

The Alliance is a coalition of exiles, warriors, and survivors who oppose the rule of Lucian Mordrake and the Aurelian Empire. It was formed in 476 AC, following Mordrake’s ascension to the imperial throne and the purges that followed. Those loyal to the old ways of the empire, unable to accept Mordrake’s tyranny, fled to the frozen north and established a new home in Frostheir. From there, they continue to resist the empire’s control, vowing to one day reclaim their lost lands.

Origins and History

The Alliance was born out of desperation and necessity. When Lucian Mordrake used the power of an Eternal Shard to seize the imperial throne, he ruthlessly eliminated any opposition. Many noble houses, military officers, and free peoples who resisted his rule were either executed or forced to flee. The surviving loyalists, led by General Thomas Feyer, escaped to the northern continent of Frostheir, where they built the city of Frosthelm and established the Alliance as a government-in-exile.

Though greatly weakened, the Alliance remains a symbol of resistance, uniting those who still dream of a free empire, untainted by Mordrake’s corruption.

Leadership and Structure

The Alliance is led by Thomas Feyer, a former Aurelian general and one of the last surviving commanders who opposed Mordrake’s rule. Feyer is known for his tactical brilliance, unwavering resolve, and deep loyalty to the ideals of the old empire. Unlike the autocratic rule of Mordrake, the Alliance is governed through a Council of Exiles, composed of military leaders, scholars, and representatives of the various factions that make up the resistance.

Key Aspects of Leadership:

  • Thomas Feyer (Supreme Commander): The undisputed leader of the Alliance, responsible for military strategy and governance.
  • The Council of Exiles: A body of advisors and leaders from different backgrounds, ensuring that decisions reflect the collective will of the resistance.
  • Regional Leaders: The heads of various settlements and strongholds across Frostheir, managing local affairs and defense.

Culture and Ideals

The Alliance is bound together not by blood or race, but by shared ideals and a common enemy. Though life in Frostheir is harsh, the Alliance remains committed to its cause, fostering a culture of resilience, loyalty, and military discipline.

  • Survival Against All Odds: The unforgiving landscape of Frostheir has forged the Alliance into a hardened and disciplined force.
  • Freedom and Justice: Unlike Mordrake’s empire, the Alliance values fairness and the rule of law, seeking to restore the old ways.
  • Merit Over Birthright: Leadership is earned through skill and service rather than noble lineage.
  • Brotherhood in Exile: The hardships of Frostheir have created a strong sense of unity and loyalty among its people.

Military and Strategy

Though vastly outnumbered by the Aurelian Empire, the Alliance has become a formidable resistance force, specializing in guerilla warfare, ambush tactics, and defensive fortifications. The harsh environment of Frostheir serves as a natural fortress, making large-scale invasions difficult.

Key Military Strengths:

  • Frosthelm’s Defenses: The capital of the Alliance is an impregnable stronghold built into the ice and stone, nearly impossible to breach.
  • Elite Warriors: Every citizen of the Alliance is trained in combat, with an emphasis on endurance and survival skills.
  • Strategic Raids: Instead of direct confrontations, the Alliance strikes key imperial supply lines and outposts.
  • Allied Mercenaries: The Alliance has recruited skilled mercenaries, including warriors from Drakthar, to bolster its forces.

Challenges and Threats

Despite its strength, the Alliance faces constant threats from within and without:

  • Imperial Retaliation: Mordrake has attempted multiple invasions of Frostheir, though all have failed due to the harsh conditions and strong defenses.
  • Limited Resources: The frozen north offers little in terms of natural resources, forcing the Alliance to rely on trade and raids.
  • Internal Conflicts: Not all members of the Alliance agree on the best path forward, with some factions favoring diplomacy while others push for total war.
  • The Bitter Cold: The extreme climate of Frostheir makes survival difficult, with entire settlements sometimes lost to the ice.

Together, we live.
