The Red Wastes

Beware of the Wastes, for they may seem beautiful, but they are hungry and you are the prey

The ground is nothing but red in the Red Wastes. Red sand, red dust, red grass - when there's grass, which isn't often. The trees are brown though. Gives some nuances to the view I guess. Still way too much f***ing sand. It gets everywhere I swear - say have you ever tried to get sand out of your knickers? 'Cause lemme tell you [...]
— An angry young woman heard on the streets of Karma

Geography

The Red Wastes are aptly named; Besides the red ground, there's not much to see. A few oasis can be found if one is determined - or know the right spots. Technically, the place is classed as "rolling hills" but the Corruption of the Shades made it closer to a wasted land. It is beautiful, in the way ruined things can be, but it is also as dangerous as the rest of Escos. That is, very dangerous.

Fauna & Flora

There is nothing of worth in the Red Wastes, only the red sand and the redder grass, a few dead trees and perhaps the starved predators, ready to jump at your throat as soon as they spot you.   Hungry wolves and hyenas stalk the area looking for weak preys, desperate for anything they can eat; Shades prowls, invisible to the human eye and yet always there, corrupting slowly but surely the land they stalk on. The few game that one can find and hunt is always on the look out, and there is barely a spot of grass between the dust and the sand of the hills. The few trees that can be found in the area are all dead, either from thirst or corrupted by the Shades.

Natural Resources

Around Karma, the Red Wastes have been repurposed as farm lands, using quite a bit of magic and technology to make it viable again. Near the edges of the region though, the place is dry and unwelcoming. Only a few oasis can be found here and there, but the merchant caravans jealously keep the knowledge to themselves, to avoid having bandits or slavers come and make ambush there.
