The Great Chele

Great Chele is nothing more than a giant snail, with no real aggression nor desire to harm. It is a nonaggressive creature in nature, but just due to it’s overwhelming size, it is an extraordinarily dangerous beast. Chele towers over 100 feet tall, is over 50 meters long, and is 15 meters wide. What makes this beast so dangerous is less it’s size, and more it’s acidic body. Anything that comes in contact with its body is disintegrated near immediately. Great Chele’s acidic body leaves behind a trail of toxic ooze that burns, poisons, and rots it’s surrounding area, destroying anything that falls into its path. With the forests’ extremely quick growth speed, it takes only a matter of days for the destruction Chele leaves in its wake. Even after the forest has reclaimed the land destroyed in Chele’s path, the area is still completely inhabitable. The plants within the area begin to secrete gaseous toxins left from Chele’s acid trail, killing any non-plant life that enters the area.
Great Chele was discovered by the humans in 1809. The humans did not dare make any contact with Chele, but kept track of its movements for a year until it migrated far enough south to be of no harm. Two years later in early 1811, Great Chele was rediscovered heading towards the human village of Greatwald. Gustavo Delroth, the current human leader of Greatwald, ordered an operation to try to hunt Chele. The hunters had no success in even affecting Chele, let alone harming or killing it, and Great Chele marched forward towards the village. All of the human’s efforts were then put into stopping Chele’s forthcoming. The humans tried to dig pathways, block it’s path with salt, flood it’s route, and even chopped down an entire section of the forest in an attempt to thwart it’s oncoming, but all attempts to stop Chele had failed. Unbeknownst to Chele itself, it completely destroyed both the village of Greatwald, and the bountiful area around it. Great Chele left 5000 humans dead in its path through Greatwald, with Gustavo Delroth being among the dead’s numbers.
After Chele’s destruction of Greatwald, the humans migrated further south of Ersterwald, and have been fortunate to not encounter any signs of Chele since. Sylvain Andilust, the present day leader of the humans, constantly has his foragers and hunters be on lookout for even the smallest sign of Chele’s whereabouts. Even though being a peaceful creature in theory, Great Chele is responsible for killing more than half the human population, and is known as one of the most fearsome beasts within Ersterwald.
