Krieger - The Orc District

Home of the orcs in Gadael, Krieger, was established upon their alliance with the gnomes and the abandonment of their second encampment. Although the others refer to it as Krieger, the orcs demand it to be called Ordale, and refer to it as such. At the center of the district lies the orc’s longship, seat of chieftain Kril G’orloth. Towards the center of the village proper sits the Fighter’s Guild for easy access by all races that call Gadael home. By the current year, most of the orc population now reside within ironically small longhouses. Constructed with defense in mind, the houses all consist of a sturdy inner wall of logs, with additional reinforcements added around key points. Windows are designed in such a way as to allow defenders to stab or shoot through them without risking life or limb. Around the outside also sits a perimeter of pointed logs several feet long, angled outwards to impale any advancing creatures, a feature that has also been applied to the outer walls of Gadael. Throughout the streets of the district also lie strategically placed barricades, creating choke points that can be closed off using stockpiles of material set nearby to form defensive lines.   A small remnant of especially hard-headed orcs, particularly elders, choose to still dwell in tents such as those used in the encampments and when they first arrived in Gadael. Not to be seen as entirely foolish, they do maintain a perimeter of sharpened logs. It is not that they consider their lives forfeit, rather that they find more honor in the fight offered by making themselves vulnerable. Perhaps they also hope that their sacrifice may allow others to live on in their place.   Beside the district storehouses also sit a forge where orc smiths construct and repair most of the village’s weapons. While the gnomes may excel at intricate craftsmanship of all kinds, they are content to leave the simpler tasks to their brutish friends. Though they would never say so out loud, some of the orc smiths rival their own abilities. The orcs, meanwhile, would never miss an opportunity to gloat to their puny companions.   Not all of Ordale is function. Adjacent to the longship lies a large grassy area with some smaller trees where the orc mothers bring their younglings to play...which usually devolves into one or more inciting a wrestling match. Otherwise, orc families can usually be seen tending to household duties. Men, when not tasked with sentry duty along the wall or mines, or mining themselves, make busy improving their homes and take turns training others or for themselves at the fighter’s guild, often with their children watching or partaking if older. Mothers are equally likely to take their older children to the guild to train as they are to be preparing the day’s meals.
