Beasts of Ersterwald

Ventirr

The Ventirr are the most commonly found beasts of the forest. They are herbivorous deer-like creatures that stand over 5 meters tall. Their prime food source is the endless supply of mushrooms found across the forest. They are nonaggressive, but are more than capable of defending themselves. When threatened, they will charge with their massive antlers, spanning a massive 9 meters in length. The Ventirr are one of the prime species hunted by the inhabitants of Gadael. Although not necessarily the most challenging of prey, they could be difficult to hunt due to their large stature. They are capable of sustaining multiple blows, and landing guaranteed killing blow against one could prove quite difficult once it has begun defending itself.

Cyros

A Cyros is a commonly found, large reptilian lizard, about the size of a komodo dragon. They are omnivorous, feeding on both the mushrooms scattered across Ersterwald, and the countless species of bug within it. Due to their dark-brown scales, they can easily camouflage themselves just about anywhere within the forest. Cyros are another commonly hunted beast within the forest, but discovering one through its camouflage is fairly difficult.

Zelass

Zelass are giant fish monsters that lie within the deep depths of the Samael River. One could easily rip the hull of a steamboat open, and very few who have suffered a Zelass attack have survived to tell the tale. The largest documented Zelass was over 20 feet long. Fortunately, the citizens of Gadael have learned which branches of the river to travel in order to avoid these foul beasts.

Jiyoken

A Jiyoken is a rather large carnivorous beetle, roughly 3 feet in size, that can be commonly seen amongst the trees. While not necessarily dangerous, they pose a constant threat to the people of Gadael on account of their food source. Jiyoken attacks are very common, but very few have died from them. Their outer shells are difficult to penetrate, but they have soft and exposed underbellies, where even a weak punch could kill the Jiyoken. Their shells make good resources for armor and shields. These beast are most commonly found in The Deepwood.

Estele

The Estele are one of the most common and dangerous threats to the people of Gadael. They are bipedal locust-like beasts, standing 4 feet in stature. They wield sharp claws that can cut through a careless orc with ease. The Estele, like ants, work in colonies. If a single Estele is seen, the odds are high that there are a dozen around the corner. They are also fairly intelligent; they can work together with other Estele, and even are capable of group tactics. They are aware of the threat the humans, elves, orcs, and gnomes of Gadael pose, and have made efforts to shorten their number. They have taken over and claimed the orc settlement of The First Encampment, and the human village of Gaham, and occasionally unleash attacks on Gadael. It is rumored that their main colony is hidden within Dendir Swamp.
