Ruler: Various Monarchs Capitol: defacto trade Blackfjord Population: 2,500,000 The Northern Kingdoms are ruled by individual Jarls and their Thanes. When they're not at war with each other it's usually because they're at war with the Demenian Empire. The only thing the Jarls of the Northen Kingdoms hate more than other Jarls is Demenians. This hatred for each other has prevented them from attaining the kind of decisive victory over the Demenia's Imperial Legion to dissuade them from coming back. Add to that, some Jarls will ally themselves with the Empire to give them an edge over their northern enemies, though these same Jarls cancel these alliances the moment they become inconvenient. The Kingdoms occupy the extreme northwestern reaches on the continent with the Iron Spine Mountains and the Black Mountains providing rugged natural borders with the Dwarven Kingdoms, Demenian Empire, and the Republic of the Magi. Blackfjord is the largest city in the region with a population of nearly 400,000, and is the only large city whose ports are open year round, though incredible snows regularly make roads impassable. Blackfjord is relatively cosmopolitan, but few can tolerate the brutal winters and the stoic Northerners who choose to live here, as a result only the hardiest foreigners stay long; most do their business and leave.
