Draconic

To understand the Draconic is to understand a race searching for purpose. Draconics are strong and resilient, created as a tool by the Mad Sorcerer Morthos Day to serve in his personal army. After the uprising and eventual freedom of the Draconic, a broken but tenacious people now slowly explore Erenel, carving their own path in a dangerous world.

Created from the union between the best attributes of dragons and humans, the Draconic are among the youngest races on Erenel. Designed for war by the Mad Sorcerer Morthos Dray, Draconic are often met with fearful incomprehension. They live in tight-knit organized clans, with each clan spread out among cities and villages across Erenel. Clan members roam far from their home, looking after their clan's interests, while others become mercenaries, soldiers or take up a life of adventuring.   To be a Draconic free from the Mad Sorcerer is to try to find where you belong in the world and decide if you are driven by honor or vengeance. The blood of a dragon runs strong through all Draconic, imparting many traits upon them from their ancestors. These traits, along with a human's natural ambition, lead many to believe it is only a matter of time before great Draconic kingdoms rise across Erenel.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Draconic look very much like humanoid dragons, covered in a scaly hide with tall, powerful builds. Often standing 6 ft to 7 ft tall and weighing between 250 and 300 pounds, Draconic don't have wings and very rarely have tails. Their hands and feet are talon-like, with three fingers and a thumb on each hand. Like their dragon cousins, their heads feature a blunt snout and a strong brow where a crest with hornlike scales resides, resembling hair. Draconic eyes and scale color closely match those of their ancestors or the dragon flight's blood during their creation.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the Draconic. They value skill and excellence in all endeavors and hate to fail, pushing themselves to extreme efforts. A Draconic holds mastery of a particular skill as a lifetime goal. Members of other races who share the same commitment find it easy to earn the respect of a Draconic and its clan.   Though all Draconic strive to be self-sufficient, they recognize that help is sometimes needed in difficult situations. But the best source for such assistance is the clan. When a clan needs help, it typically turns to another Draconic clan before seeking aid from other races.

History

In the year 492, Era of Inner Flame (EoIF), the Mad Sorcerer Morthos Dray began experimenting with bonding the blood of dragons with humans. His experimenting eventually lead to the creation of the Draconic race, molded by the Mad Sorcerer's will and enslaved to fight in his name.   Morthos Dray forced the Draconic to serve in his personal army as a weapon to claim the Thalorian Wilds and overthrow the Illuminated Empire. Thanks to the Grenchester Army and a rebellion lead by the Storm Phalanx and their commander Razmarn, the Draconic won their freedom killing Morthos Dray. Free from bondage, the Draconic clans, full of honorable warriors bred for one purpose, began to assimilate with the world, happy to leave behind the fallen empire of the Mad Sorcerer but with much to learn about their new environments.

Searching for Meaning

Draconics have minimal culture or history of their own and, as a race, continue to adjust to life beyond imprisonment and war. Lacking tradition, Draconic society reflects this worldview causing clans to have wildly different approaches to leadership, fashion trends, and even farming techniques.   For a Draconic, expressing new ideas and discoveries is an important contribution to their community. A clan may embrace their draconic heritage, revering a mighty local dragon, or refute their heritage by slaying a dragon and partaking in communal drinking of the dragon’s blood.

Breath Weapon

When you take the attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the creature takes 1d10 damage of the type associated with your Chromatic Ancestry. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10).   You can use your Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Draconic Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your ancestry.

Genetically Enhanced

Starting at 5th level, your breath weapon gains an additional effect depending on the damage type.   Acid. If a creature fails its saving throw by 4 or more, it begins to corrode. At the end of each of its turns, the creature repeats the saving throw, taking 1d4 acid damage on a failed save and ending the effect on a successful one. If the creature fails 2 consecutive saves after the initial breath weapon, it is also blinded until it succeeds on a saving throw to end the corrosion.   Cold. If a creature fails its saving throw by 4 or more, its movement speed is reduced by 10 feet. At the end of each of its turns, the creature repeats the saving throw, losing an additional 10 feet of movement on a failed save and ending the effect on a successful one.   Fire. If a creature fails its saving throw by 4 or more, it catches fire. At the end of each of its turns, the creature repeats the saving throw, taking 1d6 fire damage on a failed save and ending the effect on a successful one.   Lightning. If a creature fails its saving throw by 4 or more, electricity begins to spark off it. At the end of each of its turns, the creature repeats the saving throw. All creatures within 5 feet of the target take 1d4 lightning damage on a failed save. The effect ends on a successful one.   Poison. If a creature fails its saving throw by 4 or more, it is poisoned. At the end of each of its turns, the creature repeats the saving throw ending the effect on a successful one.
