Venator Terminus

A massive city in the southwestern plains of Venatorian territory, Venator Terminus has been slowly expanding out into the frontier.
"In Terminus the civilized find food and shelter, and the uncivilized find a cross and nails." ~Local saying.

Government

Venator Terminus is overseen by Procurator Vel Garvrus. She is known to be kind to her subjects, and utterly terrifying to her enemies. She ensures that no citizen in her city goes unfed, and that all children have access to education. She has made certain that there is an adequate amount of shelter available for all inhabitants of Venator Terminus. Vel Garvrus is utterly merciless to those she considers to be a danger to her citizens and her soldiers. Any bandit, outlaw or Ceilic can expect to be crucified, and their corpse left out in the wilderness on a cross as a warning to those that would turn against the Venatorian Empire. Vel Garvrus never goes anywhere without Tiberius Florens, the Praetorian Guard assigned to her, by her side.   Venator Terminus has the third lowest taxation rate in the entirety of the Venatorian Empire, with only Venator Lancea and Venator Hiems having lower rates.

Defences

Velite Foresters patrol the wilderness surrounding Venator Terminus at all times, protecting the city from dangerous animals and any outlaws that have decided to use the woods as a hiding place. If you see a campfire in the wilderness near Venator Terminus, chances are that it's either being used by Velite Foresters, or that Velite Foresters are watching those who lit it.   Legionnaires patrol the city of Venator Terminus in pairs, going from street to street, searching for any disturbance. These Legionnaires are often accompanied by Dire Wolfhounds, large beasts that are as loyal as they are deadly.

Industry & Trade

The lumber industry in Venator Terminus is ever expanding, as is the city itself. Timber is used all throughout the Venatorian Empire for hundreds of purposes, from the production of paper, to the creation of arrows and weapon handles, to the construction of houses and even simply as a fuel source. Because of this, much of the city finds itself in an occupation somewhat related to wood, from woodcutters, to fletchers to construction workers to carpenters.   Many hunters have moved to Venator Terminus as the large amount of wildlife in the nearby forests has made the city a rather appealing place to live. Not only does venison and bear meat sell for a reasonable price, but animal hide and antlers are also a rather marketable commodity.

Assets

Windancer Munitions is one of the largest firearm companies based outside of the Authenian Republic. Their main headquarters and factory is located in Venator Terminus. The booming timber industry in Venator Terminus ensures that Windancer Munitions will never run out of wood for the bodies of their firearms, and charcoal for the creation of gunpowder. The Windancer Rifle is their most popular item, as it excels at hunting local wildlife.   The Warm Welcome is the largest inn found in Venator Terminus. It is four stories tall, and has over thirty rooms on sale. It is an alehouse rather popular with labourers such as woodworkers and hunters. The inn is owned by Cicero Baro, an elderly high elf known for his love of making his own alcohol and his large collection of drawings he's had made of his more exotic customers. He is a devoted follower of Bacchus, or Dionysus as he is known in the Authenian Republic.   Hyde's Hide is a leatherwork and taxidermy shop that sells everything from leather armour to drake hide belts to stuffed river bears. The shop is owned by Silus Hyde, a retired Velite Forester who has a great enthusiasm for hunting. Not only does he sell leather and stuffed animals, but he is also willing to buy any hunting trophies gotten from rare or dangerous creatures. Apparently, there is an albino dire bear somewhere in the nearby woodlands, and Silus Hyde would be willing to pay a small fortune to anyone who could fell the beast and recover its body for him.   Steeds of Steel is the largest stable in Venator Terminus. It breeds and sells horses and donkeys. Steeds of Steel is owned by Constantine Elvorix, a dwarf known for his love of horses and donkeys, and his rather low standards of personal hygiene.

Guilds and Factions

The Adamant Sickle trading company has made multiple long term investments in the timber industry of Venator Terminus, and they have an office in the city where their clients can go to schedule a meeting to discuss their investments.   The Silver Lance has found steady work in Venator Terminus, and has surprisingly been welcomed by Vel Garvrus, as she sees the Silver Lance as a solution to the bandit problem in the area. She offers the Silver Lance work against the various bandit camps in the wilderness, as she would rather pay mercenaries than risk the lives of her own men.   The Church of Mercury, or Hermes as he is known in the Authenian Republic, has a large presence in Venator Terminus. Seeing as the Church of Mercury manages the most reliable courier service in Eregost, the people of Venator Terminus rely of the Church of Mercury in order to stay in contact with the rest of the Venatorian Empire, seeing as Venator Terminus is a frontier settlement.

Points of interest

The Palace of Justice is the name given to the office and mansion owned by Vel Garvrus. It is here that civilians go in order to issue any complaints, or alert the authorities to anything that could be deemed a threat to the city. Vel Garvrus is known to occasionally order her soldiers to bring any adventurers in the city before her so that she can give them a job, though if anyone were to even make any sudden movements in the presence of the Procurator, Tiberius Florens would ensure that they are given a quick death.   At the centre of Venator Terminus is a marble statue of Iapetus being wrapped in vines by Ceres, or Demeter as she is known to Authenians, while Juno, or Hera as she is called in the Republic, points a bow at him, ready to fire. The statue depicts how the two Olympians managed to defeat Iapetus, despite his great destructive power. It symbolizes the triumph of the Olympians over the Titans, the triumph of the New over the Old. Given how it depicts the Victory of the Gods of the Venatorian Empire over the Gods of the Ceilic Region, it is a rather popular statue and is regularly cleaned by government workers.

Architecture

Clay bricks and cobblestone are the main materials used in the construction of buildings in Venator Terminus, and a large amount of wood is used to create structural pillars, floorboards and stairs. Sand is taken from the riverbanks to be turned into sheets of glass for the windows. Government buildings are made out of white marble, and decorated with red banners, in order to signify their Venatorian ownership.

Geography

Venator Terminus is situated beside the Tonitru Ocean, with the sea being the only thing keeping the city away from the Ceilic Region. Venator Terminus is surrounded by wilderness, with forests to the west and the north. The natural beauty and fresh air has been a successful selling point to those considering moving to Venator Terminus.
