Venator Lorem

A large metropolis on the built into the seaside mountain of Nusruptor, Venator Lorem is known for its incredibly tall marble buildings, intricate mining industry and advanced machinery.

Demographics

Roughly one fifth of the population of Venator Lorem is in poverty, and live in the buildings in the southeast corner of the city. These civilians typically find work in the massive mines within the mountain, spending their days tearing metals such as antimony, tin, silver and zinc from the ground.   Three fifths of the population of Venator Lorem live comfortably, with occupations ranging from working at refinery plants, to civil servants, to legionnaires, musicians, couriers, merchants and craftsmen.   The final fifth of the population of Venator Lorem are the wealthy, often in their privileged positions due to mercantile ties, inherited wealth, positions within the Venatorian government or extremely good fortune. Among the elite include high ranking members of trading companies, retired Venatorian Centurians, Legates and Praetorians, members of Venatorian nobility, lucky gamblers from Venator Fortuna and the occasional retired adventurer.

Government

The Procurator of Venator Lorem is Ardemus Windancer, the patriarch of the Venatorian noble Windancer family, and CEO of Windancer Munitions. While true that Vigilo Angelius despises the man due to his greed, self absorption and petty nature, it is also true that the Venatorian Empire has been trying to become less reliant on the Authenian Republic for the production of gunpowder and firearms, and currently Windancer Munitions are the only Venatorian producer of gunpowder and related weaponry. Ardemus Windancer is known to tax the rich as little as possible, instead focusing on the middle class.   The centurion in charge of enforcing law across the city of Venator Lorem is Arcturus Ursa. He is a somewhat controversial figure, due to the fact that he was a Triarii Drakewalker before he was promoted, and to most the Triarii are associated with attrocities and civilian casualties. Arcturus is said to be reaching his limit, due to a rapid increase in organized crime in the city, which he blames on Roman Viriath, though there is yet to be substantial evidence to support this claim beyond rumours and wild speculation.

Defences

Venatorian legionnaires regularly patrol the streets of Venator Lorem in pairs, occasionally accompanied by a Venatorian Dire Woldhound. Legionnaires are equipped with more insulated clothing than those in other cities, due to the freezing cold of Mount Nusraptor. Thankfully Venatorian Dire Wolfhounds are rather resilient and can withstand the cold without any discomfort.   The walls of Venator Lorem are mounted with dozens of cannons, supplied by Windancer Munitions as a tax break. These cannons are of an exceedingly high quality, with shielded coverings to protect the operator from harm, iron sights to increase accuracy, internal rifling and a brass frame to decrease the severity of the recoil.   A small division of Triarii Purifiers have been deployed to Venator Lorem as a precaution due to the city's relatively close proximity to Rumsang Crypt. They have been ordered to eliminate any undead that get too close to Mount Rusraptor, though currently there are no reports of their presence being needed.

Industry & Trade

Thanks to Windancer Munitions, many alchemists have found work in Venator Lorem creating volatile substances such as gunpowder and alchemist's fire. Windancer Munitions has also hired several alchemists to experiment with unstable compounds with the goal of creating new formulas that could be used in the development of weaponry.   Many wagon drivers earn a living collecting shipments of gunpowder from Windancer Munitions and bringing it to the other cities of the Venatorian Empire. These wagon drivers are expected to be incredibly cautious, due to the explosive nature of their cargo.   Just outside of the city lies a seaport used to bring goods to and from Venator Lorem. While true that trade between Venator Lorem and other cities can be accomplished on foot or horseback, the vast mountains and dense forests of western Venatorian territory make the trip a slow and dangerous journey. This port is used to create supply lines between Venator Lorem, Venator Coercitor, Venator Terminus and Venator Hiems.

Infrastructure

In order to facilitate the incredible height of the buildings of Venator Lorem, most buildings have several elevators utilizing ropes attached to caged platforms. These elevators operate on thanks to a system of hoists and windlasses, using weights and counterweights to life the elevator and its contents.   The roads of Venator Lorem are partially made out of salt, in order to prevent a buildup of frost. The roads are regularly maintained by stonemasons. The roads of Venator Lorem are expected to be exactly level, due to the amount of wagons filled with gunpowder and other explosives transported throughout the city thanks to Windancer Munitions.

Assets

While true that Windancer Munitions has its headquarters situated in Venator Terminus, it also possesses a large store and manufacturing plant in Venator Lorem. In this factory, hundreds of firearms are assembled weekly, and thousands of musket balls are produced per day. While not regularly produced due to the low demand for such powerful yet impractical weapons, the Windancer Munitions factory has all the tools, moulds and materials required to create cannons.   The Mercurian Trading Centre is a skyscraper situated close to the centre of Venator Lorem. The building has thirty eight floors, and over one hundred different stores within it, ranging from alchemical shops to glassblowers. Due to the competitive nature of the economy in Venator Lorem, shops in the Mercurian Trading Centre are constantly shutting and being replaced.   The Grapevine Vulture is the largest distillery in Venator Lorem, and has become famous all over the continent for its white currant wine. While its standard bottles of wine are sold at a reasonable price and are enjoyed by many, its reserve wine is extremely expensive, and it normally only obtained by wealthy Venatorians, or members of the Church of Bacchus, or Dionysus as he is known in the Authenian Republic, who are willing to save up to buy a keg of this luxurious product. The Grapevine Vulture distillery is responsible for the employment of over five hundred citizens in Venator Lorem, from those picking white currents, to factory workers, to couriers to help transport bottles and kegs of this wine throughout the continent of Eregost.

Guilds and Factions

The Church of Jupiter has a large following in Venator Lorem, particularly in the more financially stable and fortunate citizens. This is due to the fact that Jupiter, or Zeus as he is known in the Authenian Republic, represents power and status, two things prioritized by the Venatorian elite and nobility.   The Adamant Sickle has an immense amount of influence within the economy of Venator Lorem. From their innumerable investments in the businesses within Venator Lorem, to the fact that Windancer Munitions relies on the Adamant Sickle to sell them sulphur for the production of gunpowder.

Architecture

Buildings in Venator Lorem are incredibly tall and made out of white marble, and usually have over thirty floors. Foundations typically have metal frames in order to help support the weight of these buildings. Windows are normally long and narrow, and are stained blue. The glass frames in these windows are thick in order to prevent the cold from entering the buildings.

Geography

Venator Lorem is situated atop Mount Nusraptor, in the southwest of the Venatorian Empire. Mount Nusraptor is rather close to the Tonitru Ocean, and is rather windy thanks to the coastal breeze. Mount Nusraptor is rather cold, resulting in constant snow year round in Venator Lorem. Venator Lorem sits at the very summit of Nusraptor, and because of this, all the land surrounding the city is icy, and particularly steep in certain areas. Aside from the occasional hotspring and boiling river, all the bodies of water atop Mount Nusraptor are frozen all year round.   Due to the cold, windy atmosphere, the air of Venator Lorem is remarkably crisp, which is one of the great appeals of the city, especially to the wealthy of the city who would prefer not to breathe in the smoke of the warfare district of Venator Turrim or the constant smell of whale blubber in Venator Coercitor.

Natural Resources

The mines under Venator Lorem are the primary source of antimony in the Venatorian Empire. Antimony is a metallic element with flame retardant properties, and is used in the construction of the armour and fire-lancers used by the Triarii Drakewalkers. It is also used in the development of high quality firearm ammunition.   The mines under Venator Lorem are also sources of zinc and tin, metals used in the creation of brass and bronze respectively. Brass is utilized in the fabrication of jewellery, musical instruments and decoration on ceremonial weaponry and armour. Bronze is utilized in the fittings of ships, the manufacturing of tools and the production of sculptures and statues.   Many in the city have taken to hunting albatrosses as either an occupation or a hobby. The meat of the birds is rather nutritious, and the feathers are used in the production of arrows, crossbow bolts, quills, and as a decoration on both hats and helmets. Albatrosses also have a gland filled with oil, which is used by leatherworkers in order to help preserve pelts.
