David Washington

Recovery One

"After the attempted coup performed by multiple of our agents, there have been freelancer agents running across Eregost that are... unaccounted for. If these freelancers were to die, anyone could take their equipment, learn its secrets or use it against the Republic. And that is why the Recovery program was initiated. In order to recover the armour of fallen freelancers, loyal agents are dispatched to recover what they can carry, and destroy what they cannot." ~ Aiden Peace, Councillor of Project Freelancer.

Physical Description

Specialized Equipment

Agent Washington wears grey armour with yellow highlights. Since the Epsilon Incident, Agent Washington's armour was modified so that no AI fragment is required to activate his equipment so that he can do it manually. This alteration was made because ever since the Epsilon Incident, Agent Washington has refused to have any AI fragment implanted into him. Agent Washington has also made his armour plating thinner, in order to ensure that he could move quickly and quietly.   Agent Washington's special equipment is an Anti-Magic Pulse Generator, which allows him to temporarily remove all magic from his immediate area, apart from the magic within his armour. This can stop spellcasters in their tracks, make magic items temporarily useless and render arcane engines and their related technologies unusable.   Agent Washington carries a prototype rifle. A three barrelled musket with a small magnifying scope attached to it, ensuring that it remains effective at medium to long ranges. It can fire three times before it needs to be reloaded.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born in Lysan, David Washington joined the military at the age of 18, like many young men in Lysan do. From the moment he joined, it was clear that he was a fast learner. He quickly mastered any weaponry he was given, from blades, to muskets to hand cannons. The moment his capabilities were noticed, he was sent to the FOI to join Project Freelancer.   From that moment on, David Washington was dead, and in his place was Agent Washington. He was very appreciative that the Director had accepted him into the project and was full of optimism and loyalty.   Agent Washington became a weapons specialist, capable of using anything on the battlefield with great skill, from glaives to explosives to firelances. If it could cause harm, Agent Washington could use it to defeat his opponents. This versatility was further increased by the the fact that Agent Washington is ambidextrous.   While many Freelancers were competitive and sought a high position on the leaderboard, Washington cared not for his rank, and valued the friendships he had made with his teammates more than any competitive ranking. His naivety and innocence frustrated others due to the fact that despite his more team orientated personality, he maintained the fifth highest place on the Freelancer leaderboard for the majority of his time in the project.   Due to his relative innocence and the fact that he was the youngest out of the higher ranked freelancers, many of his teammates saw him as a younger brother. He grew particularly close with Agent York and Agent North, and the three were practically inseparable when off-duty. The only freelancer agents that disliked Washington were Agent South, as she hated the fact that he had a higher position than her, and Agent Connecticut, who disliked that he didn't seem to choose to befriend higher ranking or lower ranking freelancers over one another, seeing this as an unwillingness to commit to a side, but as far as Agent Washington was concerned there was only one side.   Agent Washington was scheduled to be implanted with the AI fragment known as Iota, while Agent South was scheduled to be implanted with Eta. Agent Carolina cancelled these plans and demanded that both of these AI fragments be implanted in her instead. While South was furious about this, Agent Washington was far more forgiving, earning him some respect from Agent Carolina and increasing Agent South's dislike of him.   When Agent Washington was scheduled to be implanted again, this time the AI fragment was known as Epsilon, but as soon as Epsilon was implanted, the fragment tried to tear itself apart and kill itself. While the reason it would want to do this is unknown to the public, this caused severe psychological damage to Agent Washington. Washington was screaming in pain as his thoughts mixed with the rapidly disintegrating mind of Epsilon, and to this day he still has trouble discerning which thoughts were his at that moment, and which thoughts belonged to Epsilon. Eventually the Epsilon Unit was removed from Washington's implant port, causing him to go into a coma.   While this coma only lasted a week, it was during this week that the Freelancer Mutiny occurred, meaning that most of Washington's closest friends and teammates were either dead or on the run during this time.   When Agent Washington awoke, he was changed. Bitter, cynical and cold. He was deemed unfit for duty and sent to a psychiatric clinic for a year, with little results. Eventually, the Councillor and the Director saw a unique trait that Washington had over all other freelancers still in the Project. The Councillor asked Agent Washington if he would ever be comfortable working with another agent or AI fragment again, to which Washington replied that he would not be. Satisfied with his answer, the Director deemed Washington once again as fit for duty and had Washington become the first recovery agent, sent to recover any pieces of freelancer technology from dead freelancers, and destroy what he could not take to ensure that it could not fall into enemy hands.   The reason why Washington was deemed to be most trustworthy with this task? Ever since the Epsilon Incident, Agent Washington has refused to be implanted with another AI fragment, making it incredibly unlikely that he would steal the equipment of a dead freelancer for himself.

Mental Trauma

Where he was once free spirited, obedient and naive, the Epsilon Incident has left Agent Washington a bitter, cynical man that only begins a conversation with others for tactical appraisal, and to receive orders. Where he was once trusting and compassionate, Agent Washington is now cold and slightly paranoid. He is unable to let his guard down, no matter the situation.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Agent Washington is incredibly skilled with whatever weapon he can get his hands on, though he favours a prototype musket with three barrels, with allows the weapon to fire three times before it needs to be reloaded. He may not have the same incredible accuracy of Agent Wyoming, but Agent Washington is more skilled than most.   Agent Washington is very skilled in close quarters combat, and favours using a combat knife at short range, though he is trained in hand-to-hand combat as well.   His time in the Recovery Program has taught Agent Washington how to effectively track mortals and animals alike, which is incredibly useful when searching for the remains of a dead freelancer when you have to reach the corpse before anyone, or anything else.   Washington is very familiar with every piece of equipment he carries, and is capable of taking it apart and putting it back together with ease. This allows Agent Washington to easily repair his armour, weaponry and equipment whenever it gets damaged.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Agent Washington was incredibly close with both Agent York and Agent North, and would spend most of his freetime with the two. Both agents treated Washington with kindness, seeing him almost as a little brother due to his shy yet kind and innocent nature. He has not seen either of them since he awoke after the Epsilon Incident, though word has reached both of them that he is alive and changed by the experience. As much as they want to reach out to him, they know that boarding the FOI would be a death sentence.   Agent Carolina found Washington's innocence to be mildly annoying at times, but also saw it as slightly endearing, and she often made certain that he was alright, especially whenever Agent South was giving him a bad time.   Agent Washington knew Maine decently before he was shot in the throat, and made more of an effort to communicate with him since Maine lost the ability to speak. Though since Maine became the Meta, and Washington became Recovery One, the only thing that could happen if these two met again would be bloodshed.
