Valan and Volta

Under the light of the Married Stars, Volta and Valan, Rodem kneeled and took Onna's hands.   "Be my wife", he said. "Bring balance to my life".
— A life on the road
The story of Valan and Volta is a Hadakin legend that represents the balance of life and death. It is very influential in the Hadakin culture, and specially related to marriage.

Summary

Valan and Volta, according to the Hadakin legend, were two powerful beings who roamed the earth long ago. The story tells that Volta fell in love with Valan, and created a live being to sent him as a gift. Pleased with her act but with nothing to give her in retribution, Valan sent the gift back, but a bit different: he sent the creature dead, so Volta could make it live again.   That was the first living being on Earth, but, after that, the legend says that Volta created more and more life, so that Valan could make them die in many different ways and send her back. And so, Life and Death were created.   In love with each other, Valan and Volta decided to live together, in the sky, and are said to be the Married Stars.

Spread

The myth was well spread since the Hadakin ceased to have their own land, but it's not much known or popular in other cultures.

Cultural Reception

For the Hadakin, the myth represent the balance of existence, their main value. Although many of them don't believe this story anymore, they still have some traditions that involve the Married Stars.   The probably most notorious of them is the marriage, the Trade of hearths. When a marriage proposal is made, it's often when the stars are high in the sky, and the marriage ceremony many times is also at night, under the Married.   Some people of other cultures, specially where Hadakin had settled, sometimes adopt this tradition. However, this is very rare and is usually among people who are very close to a Hadakin family or that marry one of them.
