The Sun Stone

Said to be the most powerful known artifact in any plane of existence, the Sun Stone is highly guarded by those who have it and highly sought after by those who don't. A powerful artifact of light and good, its purity is tarnished by a history of bloodshed by those who covet it.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Sun Stone appears as an orange speckled gem, small enough to wear as a ring, necklace, or on a pin. Only a Keeper of the Sun Stone can access the stone's magic, and only then upon touch. A non-keeper can access the magic of the stone with the blood of a Keeper. The stone can grant the wielder various abilities, such as teleportation, shapeshifting, fire breathing, and super strength.
The Dark Wizard was able to imprint her spirit upon the Sun Stone by bathing herself in the blood of a Keeper and allowing the Sun Stone to consume her physical form. The final step to her immortality is reattaching her spirit from the Sun Stone to a new physical form in the same spot where she lost her old physical form. Ereben, the Sun Soldier, promised his own first born to her, as her new body is required to be blood of her blood, and Ereben had just been betrothed to her sister, Selenia.
While imprinted, the Dark Wizard's spirit blocks the innate Sun Stone magic. Lacking a physical body, the Dark Wizard does not have access to her magic, but her indomitable spirit is extraordinarily influential and corrupts those who carry it. The Dark Wizard longs to return to the Sun Kingdom to complete the ritual of immortality and attach her spirit to its new physical form. Her influence on the carrier can dramatically increase when she is closer to obtaining her goals, despite being relatively dormant in the times between.

History

The origins of the Sun Stone are unknown, but it is believed to have been made from a drop of the sun itself. So powerful and dangerous, the Sun Kingdom was founded for the express purpose of protecting the Sun Stone from evil doers and it is said that only members of the royal family can successfully wield the stone without its purifying flame consuming them. Agents of dark magic fear the sun stone, as it is believed to be able to banish all darkness without any limitation.
It is believed that the Dark Wizard targeted the Sun Kingdom because she recognized the Sun Stone and its keepers as her greatest adversaries. No matter how powerful of a dark magic wielder she could become, the Keepers of the Sun Stone could simply banish her and her magic away. As a result, The Dark Wizard amassed her power and led a campaign of demonic shadow fiends against the Sun Kingdom. She was successful in destroying the Sun Kingdom, but was seemingly unsuccessful in collecting the Sun Stone for herself. It was later recovered by a Moon Castle soldier, Ereben, who brought it back to The Moon Castle">the Moon Castle to keep it safe. 
Ereben later became King of the Moon Castle and ordered the Moon Knight Apollon to protect the Sun Stone. Not long after, the Sun Stone was stolen by the Scarlet Devil and Apollon slain. The Sun Stone was taken to the human plane and hidden in a closet of the Renbury Estate and promptly lost. Years later, Princess Skyler of the Moon Castle along with the Scarlet Devil, Soren, and the current Moon Knight, Yoru, led an expedition to the human plane in hopes of recovering the Sun Stone. The stone was discovered to be in the possession of the human Henry Renbury, Skyler's childhood friend, who claimed the stone to be a family heirloom. The stone appears to have warped Henry's mind in sinister ways, making him arrogant, wrathful, greedy, and antagonistic. When Skyler touches it, she hears a sinister voice speaking to her.
Before Skyler could retrieve the Sun Stone, Henry used it along with some blood from the Scarlet Devil to warp himself back to the Sun Kingdom. Skyler and her friends are forced to journey to the Sun Kingdom to retrieve it. There she learns that the Keepers were successful in destroying the Dark Wizard's body, but that the Dark Wizard imprinted her spirit within the Sun Stone in a vie for immortality. With the Keepers of the Sun Stone killed, it is believed that no one is capable of removing the Dark Wizard's spirit from the stone and making it pure again. No one but Soren, who the Dark Wizard believes is a descendant of the Sun Kingdom royal family and, as such, the greatest threat to her power.
