Half-Elves
The Elves of Eramon are a curiosity, debated in hushed whispers amongst the other races as to their intentions since their first appearance centuries ago. Why do the mysterious and terrible Eladrin send their kin to dwell among mortals and change to blend in with them over time? Are they exiles or infiltrators? What is their final goal, and if it is hostile, when will the other shoe drop?
Are the Elves, long-lived, beautiful and cultured and more than willing to share their magic and their company with others, a blessing or a curse from the Otherworld? Or should they simply be counted another of Eramon's diverse peoples looking to live their lives as they see fit? Wherever one stands on the divide of opinions, one thing is certain; the answer probably has something to do with all of these Half-Elves running about.
Half-Elves are the offspring of Elves and other humanoid races, generally produced through agreeable unions between the Elves and those fascinated by their grace and charm. The other half is usually human, though crossbreeds between Elves and other demihuman and goblinoid species do exist. Whilst Elves generally take on something of the appearance and much of the culture of the lands they inhabit, Half-Elves resemble their 'other' parent much more strongly, albeit tempered with gracile Elven features and slightly pointed ears.
Treasured by some communities and despised by others who fear them to be the next phase of some imagined Elven invasion, Half-Elves seem cursed to be tolerated everywhere they go, but fully belonging nowhere. Their diverse talents go some way to softening the blow, however, and Half-Elves are often self-determined and adaptable, making the most of the hand they have been dealt, come what may.
