Dragonborn

An ancient race rarely seen on the Central Continents, yet whose presence has been powerfully felt for countless millennia. The Dragonborn have long memories, and carve their heritage in the stone of great temples in their remote strongholds and subterranean cities; it is their claim that they are the aboriginal inhabitants of the Central Continents, children of the Dragons Themselves who were driven into hiding by the Gods and their children when they first came to Eramon, and who re-emerged, their culture rebuilt and strengthened, when the Godsgate Calamity ended mankind's dominion. Human scholars and historians claim instead that they are a tragic accident of magic, resulting from the mutation of an entire generation of dragonkind's eggs due to the Godsgate Calamity and its wild magic instabilities.   Despite this bitter disagreement about their history, the Dragonborn do not consider themselves mankind's enemy, but rather wish their history to be known and accepted wherever they go; this is fortunate for all sides involved, for though the Dragonborn do not have the numbers or the incentive to conquer Eramon, they are hearty and indomitable foes to those who raise their ire. Dragonborn have powerful enclaves in the icy mountains of Kar Vreld, in the remote dunes of Qadoris, in the fiery volcanoes of Tamuz and most prominently in unspoilt and unconquered Ezzuth, where their culture's heartland lies.   Like the Dragons from whom they claim descent, they are proud and fierce, respecting power and its decisive, discerning use, but their culture operates on a profound and top-to-bottom concept of "Kaxethar", loosely translated as 'honour'. In practice, this is a personal integrity and strength of will and character that defines a dragonborn's sense of identity and worth both to self and society rather than a rigid code of rules. Dragonborn who interact with other cultures are generally held in a regard of both awe and fear, for Dragons are, to many, the most primal power in all the world of Eramon, and should they ever return in force, the world will tremble...
