Chronohidaasta

Chronohidaasta is the Softfoot celebration of Time. Once a year, as the year ends and begins anew, Softfoot Halflings from all over the world return to Silverypeak Town to get offer blessings and gifts, for the God of Time, Chronos. This celebration is to thank Chronos for brining another year to end and help convince him to allow the next year to pass slowly, so there is plenty of time to relax, eat and make money or craft trinkets.   It is believed Chronos was a fan of trinkets, so it is customary to bring a small trinket or craft to the celebration. These items are placed in what’s called the Poltaa, a large cirlcle in the middle of the town. At the end of the 7 days, they burn all the trinkets in a giant fire while celebrating the night away. This is said to be done as a way to symbolize the passing of time and the Halfling’s desire to have move time every year to craft more, although some have admitted this is the only way to clear out the mass amount of trinkets brought to town for the celebration.

History

The celebration has been going on for as long as the Softfoots have inhabited Silverypeak. It is said that Chronos himself suggested it to a group of young Hobbits, but no one knows if this is true or was just a ploy from the Younglings to drink, eat, and dance for a week.

Participants

Polttaa Master, every year there is one Softfoot chosen to lead a prayer of sorts while lighting the ceremonial trinket burning.   There is a vote taken a week before Chronohidaasta to determine the new Polttaa Master. This vote is done by dropping a name into a box left in the town pollttaa.

Observance

Chronohidaasta takes place during the changeover to a new year.   The celebration typically lasts 7 days, although it could be considered 8 as the day after the last is spent recovering from the celebration.
