Soul Forged

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Souldforged are not robots.  They are usually comprised of either a metal or wood skeletal structure covered with a special magical hardwood or metal outer "skin".  Inside where a human or elf would have blood running their their veins a Soulforged as a specially designed organic bio-fuel that is recycled.  Despite a lack of nerves Soulforged have shown to be able to feel pain, heat, and all other senses that other races have.  Scholars believe that this is due to the magics that transfer the soul to their new body.  Attempts to remove these sense are met with failure or with the Soulforged losing its "humanity" and becoming a mere construct.

Magic

Soul forged are able to use magic.  As magic is either given from a divine being, connected with a soul, or studied, they only time a Soulforged would be unable to use magic is they had lost the memories of their studies.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Most Soul Forges seek to claim the names they had in their previous life. If they are unable to remember they usually choose a title as their name such as wanderer, teacher, smith, skulker

History

When the soul blight began many wizards attempted to find ways to cure the disease.  Unable to find a cure they then sought ways to transfer the living soul of a person into construct.  In 1012 The first successful Soulforged was created when Archmage Lyon transferred the soul of another mage into a new body.  After this success many others were able to ward off the effects of the he soul blight but the cost was high.  In addition the extreme material component cost of the spells required for the transference the spell itself was difficult and dangerous.  Not all survive the process.  Those that do find further costs in the form of loss of memory and difficulty with adapting to a new body.     After successfully undergoing the process of becoming a Soulforged there is a period of time where the soul must acclimate to the new body.  This can be a difficult time as there is often great loss of memory in the transference process.  The soul however remembers what it was like in its past life and can have difficulty adjusting to the fact of not needing food, drink, or sleep anymore.  Some go mad or lock themselves in isolation due to these problems.  Eventually however the soul is able to adapt and while they may still yearn for the life they once have they often grow resigned to their situation and can begin to more fully enjoy the benefits of their new body.

Memory Loss

Memory loss is one of the main drawbacks of the transference process of creating a Soulforged.  After awakening it is not uncommon for a Soulforged to be unable to remember anything about their past life.  More commonly they might remember their name and a few small details from their past.  This loss of memory has caused most Soulforged to live lives with a sole purpose of searching for information on their pasts.  By the time they have unlocked the secrets of who they once were they sometimes find that they have grown into a completely different person along the way.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

While soul forged can be found all throughout Westreach it is only in the capital cities or other major cities that they might feel welcomed. As the magic needed to create a Soul Forged is expensive and difficult most commoners have never seen a soul forged before. The Kingdom of Alteria also distrusts Soul Forged due to their connection with magic.
