Material Characteristics

Fjoream resembles a silver metal at first glance. Upon closer inspection however other colors can be seen. If magic is cast within close proximity to the metal it begins to glow with a faint light depending on the type of magic and the magic itself is repressed and absorbed within the metal.

Physical & Chemical Properties

All magic cast within close proximity to the metal is dampened. After such an exposure the metal cools considerably.

Geology & Geography

So far the metal has only been found in one general location, the Torn Mountains of Sozar. No one know what causes its formation as its discovery is rather recent and not enough time has been spent studying the material or the surrounding area.

History & Usage

History

Once discovered Fjoream became integral to the Alterian war effort. As they were at war with the Magocracy they needed a way to defend themselves from the might of the war mages. Alteria began using strips of Fjoream in their soldiers armor in order to dampen any magical attacks againts their armies. It worked so well Alteria decided to invade the island of Sozar and push back the snow dwarves so that they might control the mines for themselves.

Discovery

It is said that the shaman of the Snow Dwarves were the first to discovery the metal. they found that their rituals could not work as well when deep within their old caves. They left and spread stories of monsters that ate magical energy within the Torn mountains. Fredrick Meenkl of Alteria heard these rumors and decided to investigate for himself. What he found was a metal that appeared to absorb magical energies. He brought this information back to the capital and a colonization effort was soon begun.

Everyday use

Fjoream is mostly used in armor as thin strips of metal inlays. This allows for a minor magical dampening effect. If one is particulalry wealthy they might be able to afford a weapon made from the material but it is said that not even the rishest man in Alteria could afford to make an entre suit of armor from the metal.
