Tasaki (Fox Folk)

Tasaki are the widely loved fox people of the central savanna and plains regions. In the first Eon, they were nomads, travelling on a common migration route but after the first Emporian Dominion, they were forced to settle down. Tasaki are the smartest of the Demi-Human species and the most sociable, often taking jobs as clerks, bankers and traders in the various empires across the Eons. They are also the only race to have never been purged or attacked by an empire. Even Gnolls never targeted them during any of their warpaths. Tasaki are a rather passive people; combination of survival instincts and Eons of reinforcement. Their religion also encourages pacifism in face of adversity, this is also the same god who encourages comedy through theft and insults, Magarath.   Details Provided by the Emporian Ministry of Historical Records. In matters of comparisons, it is assumed to be compared to Humans

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The first Emporian Dominion tarnished the old Tasaki languages, overriding it with their own common language. Prior to Emporian influence, their language was very song-like, consisting of changes in tone and pitch to simulate emotion and types of words used. Translations were formed but were often inaccurate as context was often a factor in what tones and pitches were used. By the second Eon, the language was dead and replaced by the Emporian Common Language

Culture and cultural heritage

Tasaki are a very sociable people.

Shared customary codes and values

Tasaki lack family names. It's lost to time if that was always the case or a way of indoctrination to adopt a communal and socialist society. The lack of last names has made it extremely easy for them to integrate into Emporian communities and even easier on the legal system when it came to marriage   Tasaki as a whole are often altruistic to those who either genuinely need it or to those whom they could benefit from.

Common Etiquette rules

Tasaki don't utilize formal title schemes within their own culture but they do recognize foreign titles. They've also become famous for overfeeding their guests.

Common Dress code

Tasaki were naturalists and were introduced to clothing by the Emporians. Their fur was often more than enough to handle the cold nights and hot days. Following Emporian influence, they adapted the clothing to become looser, shorter and to show more fur and skin. They also utilized softer colors like faded whites, grays, darker blues and dulled golds. Their clothing has no relation to social or political positioning

Art & Architecture

Tasaki houses are made of local acacia woods and built upon stilts (A couple of violent storms forced them to build houses on stilts due to flooding issues). Tasaki homes are often the most decorative among all the races often featuring handcraft wood accents, carved additions and other totem-like objects. Totems of weird demonic creatures heads often hang from the clan leader's house or by modern standards, the town mayor.   Tasaki love to use natural wood coloring to set base tones and to accent it. Through trade with the Emporians and the Desertmen of the west, they were introduced to dyes and paints.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Tasaki introduced the Emporians and the Elves to the month long hunting event

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Tasaki only baptized the youth who were bound to become priests, monks and other religious types. Unlike their Demi-Human cousins,Gnolls, their baptism consisted of pouring olive oil over the young-ling's head and then submerging them in a nearby lake.

Coming of Age Rites

Tasaki live longer than Gnolls and the Fummau but even that is dwarfed by human lifespans. Tasaki average around thirty years making their end of childhood and start of adult life around the age of ten.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Tasaki have always frowned upon cannibalism, believing that to be the reason why their gnollish cousins were forced underground to serve Thezec. Tasaki whose mates die in their sleep often will sleep with their corpse for another night, praying and mourning over it. They also utilize very mild necromancy to slow down the rate of decay, a trick they have historically claimed to be a gift from the goddess Sura.

Common Taboos

Tasaki cannot cannibalize corpses.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Naturalists. It is well known that Tasaki have very little care for wealth as shown by centuries of altruism within their cliques and with that, never developed a taste for fanciness like the Aldail (High Elf)s or Emporians. Instead, it is common to find Tasaki walking around their towns naked (Naked meaning "to be without clothing"). Tasaki do have a lot of fur that hides their skin and private regions surprisingly well.
