Halflings
Culture
Culture and cultural heritage
Halflings are the result of human deformities being banished to live by the city sewers. These deformities tended to snowball into what halflings are today.
Shared customary codes and values
The halflings worship the River of Giving. It is the river that flows from the humans sewage system. It is where halflings get their drinking water, clothes, and everything else they need to survive.
Average technological level
They drink water out of a river of human shit and revere a sentient tumor
Common Dress code
Halflings wear whatever they can find but are often restricted to bolts of cloth clumsily draped around their ill-fitting proportions.
Art & Architecture
Halflings live in a small shanty town below where most humans live. It is generally poorly constructed and homes tend to fall over at a strong breeze
Coming of Age Rites
There are no coming of age rites for halflings, only the desperate efforts to cling onto their own survival.
Common Taboos
It is taboo to insult a non halfling as a halfling. They fear that insulting another race could lead to fury being rained down upon the shanty.
Historical figures
Quasimodo - the first deformed. Quasimodo was the first birth defect to survive being abandoned in the sewers. He then grew to save and raise other deformed babies that found themselves abandoned.
Ulser the Malignant - a rare 7th generation halfling, Ulser is all but a living growth on the floor. He is revered by other halflings as the furthest progression of the halfling people
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
All halflings are known for being grossly deformed. Anything even resembling a human form would be considered a beautiful halfling. Halflings have no clean water to bathe in and eat the scraps thrown away by the humans.
Gender Ideals
It is almost impossible to properly tell apart a male and female halfling as they are often horrible deformed and sterile.
Courtship Ideals
While most halflings are sterile, there are occasionally halflings capable of breeding. This, however, often leads to an even more grotesque monster.
