Humanity (as it is)

Centuries ago, the Light disappeared. None living can remember it, and even the wisest and most learned have little understanding of what the words "Sun," "Moon," and "Stars," mean. At first there was panic, and panic brings with it war and death. Further lives were lost as the land began to fail, plants and animals that required the sun for life slowly dying off. The cunning few who saw this collapse in sustenance coming developed variant food sources, effectively staving off humanity's death by starvation. But none could properly bring back the Light, not for many years. Eventually, some small pocket towns discovered means by which they could once again create illumination, and these towns quickly evolved into luminescent cities known as "Chandeliers."

Basic Information

Anatomy

With their eyes now utterly useless, humanity began to develop means of echolocation (perception through sound) or tremor-sense (perception through touch).   The Listeners began to become taller over the years, their ears larger. They have also developed a chamber in their mouth which allows for more resounding click-sounds to be made.   The Feelers grew more squat, their arms now as long as their legs, so they could feel along the ground. Both variants of humanity have almost completely lost the use of their eyes.   The Dwellers, those who live in the Chandeliers, look much as humanity had before the Loss of the Day, though their eyes are not nearly as strong as they once were.

Ecology and Habitats

Most of the population live in small rural settlements, no more than one to two hundred to a given area. Others live in the vast Chandelier metrpoli.

Scientific Name
Homo nocturnus
Conservation Status
The people of Enrin have adopted a number of strategies for survival: a fair portion, like the people of Purkal, have made a living off of new agricultural techniques. Others have taken to hunter/gatherer traditions, like the nomadic peoples of the land, Cols. A rare few still subside in the technological and cultural havens of the Chandelier, which each have unique means by which they keep their citizens safe.
