Scylla the Crysopel

Summary

The Scourge of Black Lurch Gorge, The Night Hordes' Mother Maiden, Scylla the Black Clad.   Few have set eyes upon the creature that dwells within the waters of Black Lurch, and even fewer yet have lived to tell the tale. A creature whose scales are an invincible black, and whose breath is a white-hot rage. An enormous reptilian being unlike any other, given the name Crysopel for its leathery wings that blot out the sun and its furious temper that leaves adventurer and monster alike dead in its wake.   It has long been theorized that Scylla's lair is at the epicenter of Ob-2s expansion point, the center of Terisirae's wastes. As if the layers of Hell, each step closer to her abode presents stronger creatures with more terrible might.

Historical Basis

Scales and talons have been recovered by adventurers daring enough to brave the wastes. In addition, a fang as long and thick as an adult human man was retrieved along the southern edge of The Green Line mountain range. The fang was later magically divined through the Legend Lore spell and confirmed to belong to Scylla herself, afterward it was purchased by the Colum Kingdom and put on display at its museum of natural history.   Creatures from the zone of Ob-2 are uncommonly sighted with weaponry and armor formed from the old sheddings of the winged monster. Spears tipped with black scales can pierce even the best-forged plate mail and talons adorn long coats of monsters sentient enough to appoint a pack leader.

Spread

The legend of Scylla is well known across Terisirae, though once the mainland has been left behind there are few who care enough about it to pay it any mind.   Even those who reside in Terisirae question why a creature of such might and indomitable strength would not simply leave its territory and lay claim to all the lands it could reach.

Variations & Mutation

Divination magic and divine contact have shed much light on Scylla's existence and her power, though the exact details are still undetermined. Sightings have placed her size somewhere between 17 feet long with a 25-foot wingspan to 30 feet long with a 55-foot wingspan.   There are also stories and rumors that identify Scylla not as a Crysopel but as a Leviathan, a sea creature bound to the waters of Black Lurch Gorge--if not indefinitely at least for long periods of time.
