Verbulator

The Verbulator is a very recent invention form a prodigy and newly appointed deacon of the Steamhaven University. It is said that while pondering improvements to the city's communication network he entered a divine trance in which he created the device now dubbed the Verbulator, a seemless integration of technology with magic it was quickly adapted for all essential and confidential communication within Steamhaven.

Utility

In order to use the verbulator a holder of a medalion key must stand on disk-like surface of the verbulator which will activate the device. Once activated 4 disks will protrude form the base of the device and begin to spin around the user, ready to record. Now the used need only say the name of the person they intend to contact followed by the message. to end the message one need simply say "end message" and the intended reciever will be telepathically sent the message no matter their location.
Several people have attempted to reverse-engineer the Verbulator but all have failed.

Social Impact

The technology has increased the efficiency of communication throughout Steamhaven immensly and more importantly created a form of communication that cannot be intercepted by spies, the need of which became painfully apparent when the former university deacon made off with a large portion of new experimental tech with military applications.
Access & Availability
The blueprints of the Verbulator are locked away and only known by it's creator and the keeper of knowledge. Usage of the device is restricted to the elite of Steamhaven who are the only ones with the Medallion Key, a medalion on a necklace which works like a receiver with a personal signature.
Complexity
very few people would be able to construct a verbulator even with the blueprints due to it's abstract construction and alledgedly divine inspiration behind it's conception.
