Thunderkeep Mountains

The mountain range that separates The Motherland from the Jungles of Grymkash.

Geography

A massive mountain range believed to have been created during the wars between the Gods and the Elemental Titans. The Peaks are tall and the valleys deep. A section of the Peaks was removed to allow the Dragon Council to create their City. Theoretically a path through the mountain passes and valleys should be possible, but as of yet it has been undiscovered and the Dwarves have much easier options by far. The mountains are riddled with caves and tunnel structures. Though few are safe for exploration.

Ecosystem

As an extreme environment above ground a surprising amount of life can be found. Goats feed on the scargly brush and trees that grow here and density of nutrition is valued more than abundance. Many plants have adapted to be more toxic, causing the animals to adapt and be more resistant. In the caves however life is easier and much more diverse, as long as you don't go to far down. In the deepest reaches you are near the Underdark and the inhabitants of it.

Ecosystem Cycles

Seasonal cycles heavily effect the ecosystem on the surface. Winter and fall life are soi different from each other that you'd think them not the same location.

Localized Phenomena

Near the ruins of the Dragon Council all sorts of weird phenomena occur. Sections of unexplained gravity or magnetism, sections that seem to be solid but are just a thin coat above pools of Lava. Many thing with little to no definitive explanation.

Fauna & Flora

Scraggly brushes and grasses dot the mountainsides, while small trees hang off cliffs and crags like lichen, the fruit of which may be sufficient to keep a person alive and comfortable for a day, or kill them quite quickly. The goats and bats that eat the fruits don't have a problem either way. The predators that eat them sometimes seem to get a little ill but usually they either avoid the intestinal track or it makes up such a small amount of the goat eaten that it is quite diffuse.

Natural Resources

The region is rich in metals and gems.

History

The Mountain range has been the home to the Dwarves since time immemorial. When the Dragon Council came to make their city in the Heights of the range, they destroyed several peaks and carved carved out swaths of the land. With the Dragon Council no more the Dwarves have started to reclaim some of their abandoned land.

Tourism

The Halls of the Dwarves have good markets for tourism and the architecture and history could drive much academic tourism if the Dwarves were willing to talk about it, or if they could be exected to do so unbiasedly. The Mountain Range above sees little reason for tourism of any but he most excessive thrill seekers and bored adventurers.
