The Guardians of Alanue
The Imperial army of Alania. Guardians enforce the King's law throughout the entire empire. To disobey them is to disobey the King.
Each province has its own division of Guardians led by the province Lord. Guardians are generally hired from within the nobility classes.
The Guardians are the main reason for the Zarenian's mutiny. Subject to poor working conditions, overzealous rule, and strict population control, Zarenians quickly tired of the poor treatment. With their superior knowledge of the mountainous terrain, their robust physical capabilities, and various guerilla tactics (and a couple of other fate-changing discoveries), they were able to chip away at the Guardians and ultimately expel them from the peninsula.

Technological Level
After Alanuans discovered Zanite (i.e. raided Zarenia for it), they implemented it into most of their technology: most importantly, the elemental implants Guardians receive during training.
Implanting Zanite chips into the wrist allows someone to absorb and harness natural energy with few drawbacks. By connecting a gauntlet into the implant, one could harness specific elements (as just the implant by itself was useless). Different type of gems in the gauntlet affect which element one can use. While most Guardians have a preferred element they use, they receive basic training with all elements. This prevents anyone getting hung up on learning one unique skill (which is what Zarenians need to do with their Spirits) and allows for concrete training methods.
When the Zarenian revolution kicked into full swing, Alanuans lost access to a ready source of these gems and minerals. They remain in talks with the Zarenian Council for better trading agreements.
