When it comes to the Flapping Tomato, there is one figure even more synonymous with the restaurant than the eponymous draconic tomato or mediocre pizza - the legendary Doug Fennel.
A generally shiftless man, Doug has worked at the same job, doing the same thing for more than a decade and a half. Open to close, seven days a week, he's always there, standing behind the counter and ready to take your order with an affable grin and a recommendation for anyone too stoned on elfroot to make up their mind. He even has a particular gift for pairing a customer's personality, and strain of preference, with a custom order, many of which end up on the actual menu.
While he's not the owner of the shop - he's not even a manager - most of the other employees do defer to his extremely niche expertise and no matter what condition he shows up to work in no one can ever seem to find it in their heart to reprimand him because Doug is the kind of man who will always do his job. Even when he's blazed out of his mind.
Recently, Doug has entered into a relationship with the Goliath Vaalu Dreamwalker Nalakiago - a transplant to Deepvale from the distant Goliath Mountain in the northernmost reaches of Emeriss. Between the Goliath's newfound adoration for cheese and their mutual love affair with elfroot, it seems by all accounts to be a match made in Elysium.
