Elbyarr (Ælbiahhen)

Written by Ama-Zone

The Elbyarr consists of three historical figures told to have left heaven itself to liberate their people from the most sickening darkness ever fallen upon them. Their brave hearts were rewarded with the highest sense of honor known to their world: Immortality, with which they swore to forever protect and assist Fabelayar, the land of the loyal and the brave.
Today the three are considered the most ancient of beings and the only mortals ever to withstand a bond to the afterlife and to the higher power, Lafygur, itself. Therefore they are worshipped equal to the gods of Fablar and are rightful rulers Fabelayar’s. Since their ancient wisdom represents the godly will Lafygur’s, it shall always be put before any other.

History

The Lone Warriors

Legends tell the story of three lone warriors told to have stood their ground against forces tenfold the size of their own, when all others have already retreated for safe surrender. Despite the superior might of their enemies from Dolgyen-Hephnys, the legendary trio of Myldigard the Brave, Fablyarso the Wise and Enjelayah the Kind were determined to fight for their land with no-one but themselves on the battlefield.
Their inevitable death, however, sparked a series of protests against their surpressors up to the point where Herphiblio-Kynestros, the Knightguard of conqueror Dolgyen-Anathesigor himself, raised his iron blade against them. The sacrifice of the three gave their people the braveness to stand up against Dolgyen... with the cost of each of their lives. Standing before the gates of heaven, the warrior’s hearts were weighing from their people's fate mirroring theirs with the mere threat of extinction as a consequence, and so prayed to the Lords of heaven to give the remaining Fabelayans the strength to conquer their home back. When not heard, they prayed for their return to the living realm as their last attempt to Fabelayar’s freedom, even if it meant to never return to paradise.

Dolgyen’sche Revolution

Purple hearts in rosen waters, Never drowneth once the moon, If should dare dive into Loknús Light shall blind deep sea at noon” (Fabalayan anthem, line 9-12)
With just a riddle Lafygur’s they descended to their land. Only one hundred Fabelayan fugitives survived hiding among the Dolgyens. “One hundred with the hearts of hundreds”, spoke Wise Fablyarso on that fateful night. And so, even with all odds stacked against them, the trio didn’t just re-awaken their people’s lost hope, but also striked a thousand Dolgyens each in the cover of the night with nothing more than a bow and arrow, which later became the symbol of the Fabalayan flag. The 103 Fabelayans successfully overthrew Dolgyen-Anathesigor, bowing down to the three Elbyarr reclaiming their land.

Lafygur’s Prophecy / The Elbyarr’s Eternal Quest

Ready to surrender to the Lord of hell, he would refuse to let them pass for their hearts were too pure for even heaven to accept. And so, the three once again stood before heaven.
With the moon the stars have followed, Sun has come to where it earned, Will the waters dare to swallow Holy blue with no return?” (Fabelayan anthem, line 17-20)
It was the Elbyarr’s honor to accept Lafygur noble quest to preserve Fabelayar from a coming threat, as far away as it appeared. They have turned their back on heaven itself to save their people from the darkness to come and were crowned Fabelayar’s rulers as long as the dark prophecy took to be fulfilled. But no matter how many dangers and wars they averted, it never came. Until that one fateful day our story begins…

Importance in The Present

Government

Lafyans

Chosen by not only Lafygur, but their people, the Elbyarr are crowned Lafyans, the Fabelayan version of a tradition-breaking king, who does not rule its people, but allows themselves to be ruled by them. This concept goes back to the Dolgyen’schen Revolution when the bloodline royalship led to their unfortunate quick conquest by the sole decapitation of their noble ruler, Jolts-Yagens, by Dolgyen-Arthesigor.
In contrast the fall of the Lafyan crown nowadays isn’t recognized as a shift of power since it belongs to the might of its defiant people. Therefore, Fabelayar’s freedom is certain “as long as one Fabelayan heart is beating”, as their saying goes.
Still, the Elbyarr fulfill an important role in their government. They are the only undoubted connection to Lafygur and therefore impersonate its will. Their ancient wisdom is seeked by the simple people as both advice and assistance. Their subjects are to be listened to and served just like them, only expecting the exchange of service from both sides.

Culture

The Elbyarr are not only a symbol of power, but one of bravery, loyalty and hope. They are the embodiement of their kingdom’s beliefs and aspirations, everything worth fighting for. They thank them their land, freedom and protection.
Therefore there are many holidays appointed to the Elbyarr. Like “Enjelyana” to honor the Kind blessing them with the heart to believe, “Myldigaran” to honor the Brave granting them strength to fight, and Flablyana to honor the Wise giving them the wisdom of strategy to succeed.
Obviously, “Elbyana”, the day of their acquired freedom, is the biggest festival of the year, where the three lone warriors paint their crest on their people with their own immortal blood as a symbol of equality. There are contests to test their people’s kindness, braveness and wisdom and honor the three Elbyarr for their wisdom. It’s also the only day of the year where the Elbyarr directly communicate Lafygur’s will to their subjects and even give predictions and prophecies about the coming years.
