The monastery is build from large granite stones mined from the hills to the north of the site.

History

Legend has it that long ago, in the early days of the Empire of Dawn, a noble knight in the service of the temple of Helm battled a great and terrible evil, a creature not of this world, which resided in the lake now named after the worthy hero.
The battle was long and terrible, the dark creature of the waters battering the knight both physically and mentally with his awesome powers. When the situation seemed its most dire, the knight implored to Helm to give him strength. With the power of the god of protection surging through him, the knight reached out his hand across the water, casting a mighty lightening bolt into the very heart of the monster, and the waters were stilled.
The knight would go on to become the Saint Velothi. A monastery was constructed on this site to commemorate the battle.
Historically the monastery was a place where devout followers of Helm would hone their martial skills, ready to act should the evil in the lake rise again. Since the fall of the Empire, the monastery has become more of a place of quiet reflection, with the priests and acolytes who live there tending to the spiritual needs of the farmers who live in the region.

The site has always been a popular pilgrimage destination for the followers of Helm, and attracts visitors to the otherwise unnoteworthy valley of Verdana
