Dragonborn

The dragonborn were created by dragons in the Mythic Age, when dragons had almost godlike power. The dragons created them to be servants, but by the middle of the Second Era most dragonborn had stopped serving dragons. They are originally from the continent Berechan, but many chromatic dragonborn migrated to Eltcarem following the events of the Dragon War. In Eltcarem , most dragonborn served as foot soldiers for the dragons during their conquest of the continent in the First Era. After the dragons were eventually overthrown at the end of the First Era, many dragonborn continued to serve them, but the dragons slowly lost influence over them as their power waned.

Since the Second Era, dragonborn in Eltcarem have lived mainly along the continent's eastern coast in settlements and strongholds. They are fairly exclusive, tending to keep to themselves. As a result, few outsiders are allowed into the dragonborn settlements. Similarly, many other cities bar dragonborn from entering because of their draconic heritage. People of the other races are distrustful of the dragonborn at the very least, and oftentimes they are openly hostile. They are suspicious that the dragonborn are still servants of dragons, and since the races of Eltcarem only of the evil chromatic dragons, they are right to fear their return to power. Supporting this fear is the fact that some dragonborn cults have arisen throughout history that aimed to bring the dragons back. It was only a small minority of dragonborn that were involved with these cults, and most are very happy being free from the dragons.

This mutual distrust has led to dragonborn being the most marginalized race in Eltcarem. Occasionally, dragonborn will become adventurers in search of wealth, fame, and a better reputation for their people, but most of them stick to their settlements and strongholds along the coast
