Lathe

A complex piece of machinery used for shaping various materials. First pioneered by the Northern Burrows in ancient times as a way to more effectively produce weapons like Flicker-Hollow Arquebuses and other more complex tools. Attached to a spinning mechanism that can be powered either manually or by other means, lathes spin in a perfect circular motion allowing a smith or craftsman to make precise indentations or cuts.   Lathes are a cornerstone of dagavirm society, as most burrows use them frequently to make higher-quality tools at more efficient rates. Even human settlements have adopted the lathe as a common piece of workshop machinery, going so far as to call it the "Rat's Chewer" from the way it can be used to chew off pieces of wood from the spinning axis it rotates on.

Discovery

The lathe was believed to be discovered somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 years ago in the Northern Burrows and seems to have coincided with the invention of the Flicker-Hollow Arquebuses used by dagavirm today. Dagavirm workshops appear to have exploded in popularity following the discovery of the lathe, and most burrows around the time began overhauling production to focus on utilizing the technology to make more complex tools and weapons.
