Humans

A race of mostly hairless, bipedal mammals spread across the continents of Elohi, especially known for their creation and use of advanced tools, weapons, culture, society, civilization, history, language, music, and religion. Humans typically weigh anywhere around 70 to 260 lbs, and measure in height from 4½ to 6 ft tall for grown adults. Humans are one of two of the only known species capable of sapience, the second being the dagavirm. They populate roughly 80% of all habitable landmass and tend to live in social circles that range from family units to entire cities.

Unlike their dagavirm counterparts, humans live relatively long lives, capable of reaching just about 80 to 90 years of age for both male and females. Despite this, they coincidentally mature at a similar rate to dagavirm both physically and mentally, with most becoming fully-fledge adults at the age of 16 to 22 years old. Humans usually begin having health issues around the ages of 60 and 70, however some are able to live past this and live on to as old as 100 or more years.

Biology

Anatomy

Humans are relatively unique in the animal kingdom as they are a non-Virment species which posses 5 opposable digits for hands and almost no opposable digits for feet. Similar to most any other mammal, humans have a land-based digestive and respiratory system which is complimented with a dense assortment of muscle groups and internal skeleton. Despite human locomotion being almost entirely land-based, a distinct plantigrade footing, not too dissimilar to some species of birds, is present in human feet, slightly hindering movement. It's debated whether this flat-footing came about due to some natural evolution to amphibious environments for swimming, or if this came about as a result of some sort of sexual attraction to bipedalism.

Reproduction

The reproductive cycle of humans is mild in terms of successful output, as unlike other mammals, humans require a longer gestation period of roughly 9 months after egg fertilization from intercourse just to give birth to a single child, with some rare instances of just 1 to 2 additional siblings. After a successful birth there is also a heavy toll taken on the mother, leaving the newborn child and mother mostly defenseless in most cases. This is in stark contrast with most mammals who not only produce more offspring per pregnancy, but also are able to quickly recuperate and recover to care for their babies.

Genetic Diversity

Though the overall shape and size of humans is relatively similar no matter where found, specific genetic familial traits have distinctly shaped several ethnic and racial groups around the world. This has led to deviation in small things like eye and hair color, all the way to more significantly noticeable traits like height, weight, muscle disposition, metabolism, and even bone and skeletal configuration.

Evolution

Origins

Unlike other species native to Elohi, human ancestry has been notoriously difficult to track down the origins of. Humans have no direct or indirect common ancestry to any other animal on the planet, however retain certain traits and biological compositions that suggest they share some sort of connection with most native species. The mystery on human origin has lead to many scholars to suggest divine intervention among other theories, however without any proper archeological evidence these claims fall short of any real scientific recognition.

Ancestory

As far as fossile records can reveal, coupled with speculative guessing by archaelogists and scholars alike, humans were most likely descended from an extinct order of semi-aquatic mammals that roamed in swamps, marshes or any other flooded lowland enviornment. This theory on the original natural habitat being a bog of some sort would correlate with the idea that human hands and feat were originally evolved from flatter, more tangible appendages capable of swimming more quickly through the water and onto land. The lack of any fur could also be assumed to be similar to that of whales, another mammal that also lacks fur seemingly due to its drag effect on aquatic movement. Whatever the forerunner ancestory was, it is clear that at one point, some twenty thousand years before recorded time, humans were spread out across the entirety of Elohi.
