The Appointment Esepel
The Appointment Esepel (Esepel being a Supradian term for a religious building that is not a place of worship), is a building in Sesilen which has exactly one purpose - to hold the voting and following appointment of the High Priest, head of the Supradian religion and ruler of the theocracy of Eseris.
Purpose / Function
The building serves as a safe, distraction-free space for the Septans (ordained ministers of Supradia) to elect the next High Priest from the existing Representatives of the Gods.
Design
The main room of the Appointment Esepel is a large hall in which the voting takes place. The Septans sit on the ground floor, in which there are around 100 chairs fixed to the floor. Ahead of them is the throne in which the High Priest sits once the appointment is over. Behind the throne are seven chairs, one for each Representative of Ersola, placed in a parabolic arrangement facing the throne.
Entrances
There is exactly one entrance to the building, a huge set of doors looking out over the central square of Sesilen. There are no openable windows. The doors are locked from both the inside and the outside during the three-day period of the appointment. Enough supplies to feed the priests and staff for that period are left there. On one occasion, this has ended in disaster for the people inside. A Native Senestrian insurgent had managed to sneak in before the doors were closed, armed with a dagger. He then proceeded to kill at random, which went on until the doors were forcibly removed using saws to take them from their hinges. The insurgent had already slaughtered most of the people inside, as nobody in the building was allowed to be armed at the time. After the event, no new entries or exits were added, and the doors continued to be locked from both sides, but the surviving Representatives of the Gods elected to have a guard service there.Architecture
The building is designed with aesthetics in mind, using flamboyant marble pillars and archways to make it a centerpiece of the city square it sits on.
