Shadrak

The Shadrak are a lizard-like race, predominant in Shadra.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Shadraks have internal anatomy quite similar to humans, although they are significantly more muscular. They are also thicker-boned, making them more resistant to damage, at the cost of being unable to swim.

Ecology and Habitats

Shadraki can do well in a variety of climates, able to switch between warm and cold-blooded depending on the environment. That said, it takes a long period of time to switch, and rapid changes in temperature (such as a heatwave or cold snap) can prove fatal.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The vast majority of Shadraki live in their home nation, Shadra. However, due to Shadraki teleportation technology being some of the most advanced in the world, they are able to maintain a trade presence across Elemaran.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Shadraks are famed for their medical science, Shadra having a higher surgery success rate than any other nation. They keep many of their medicines a fiercely guarded secret, including lotions to thin blood and ease pain.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Shadrak use the Arthra langauge, which uses a logogram as its writing system. Nouns are represented by a symbol or mix of symbols. They can then be followed up by a dash to convert it to a noun or a diagonal slash to convert it to an adjective/adverb. Most nouns can be converted in this was (war becomes fight as a verb, warlike as an adjective, etc).

Common Taboos

With Shadra's high levels of militarism, soldiers are well-respected, and it is considered unacceptable, even treasonous to talk against one.

History

The Shadrak were caught up in the War of the Gods, along with every other race created by the gods in their prime. However, they escaped early and, using portal technology created in secret, escaped to Animaren, another realm, where they lived in secret. 200 years later, Kineva brought them back to Elemaran, sending them to the north of the Great Continent.   They quickly established a new society, which became the nation of Shadra.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Shadra have a strong rivalry with the elves, festered through centuries of lack of communication. This rivalry's origins can be traced back to the Supradian interpretation of the War of the Gods, in which the Shadraki are portrayed as cowardly and selfish.
