Dovetail toxin

A toxin produced by the Dovetail plant's flowers. It is not poisonous in itself but becomes toxic when activated by substances found in the same plant, only produced in the period when the pollen is not yet formed.

Transmission & Vectors

The toxin is naturally transmitted when creatures would attempt to get nectar from the flower when the flower was not yet fully formed, kicking up the toxin and the activating agent, which both take the form of a yellow dust. The dust would then reach the mouth, and follow the creature's next meal into the stomach. In the modern day, it is a common method of poisoning by the Order of Thorn, often sneaking both the toxin and activating agent into a meal or drink. One notable example is an operation by Lena Arkwright that took place in Perma, Gaen. Lena Arkwright put the toxin into the town's well and putting the activation agent into the wine of the lord. If she were to put both into the wine, both the lord and his officials would die. If she were to put both in the well, many peasants would die. The lord was the only one to ingest both the water from the well and the castle's wine, as it is customary for the lord to drink from the well on the first of every month.

Causes

The poison is perfectly safe in the months of Kineva and Vada, and it is not produced in the months of Saeri, Loara, and Cortis. In the months of Ersola and Edreni, however, is when it becomes dangerous.

Symptoms

The toxin works by blocking nerve connections, and in doing so shuts down the heart and lungs, as well as inducing paralysis. It generally kills in three hours from ingestion in humans, although it can depend on the body mass of the victim and amount of toxin ingested.

History

The toxin was first used as a tool for assassination by the Order of Erdantia in 1575, against a Syndalan General by Master Opel Jackson. It was since praised for its versatility and was used in various poisonings by the Order since (although it is not universally adopted, with many operatives such as Iado Meredin opting to use their own blends).
