Aglarond
Seat of the High Wizard Tamron Farsight, Aglarond exists almost entirely due to the mining operations in the nearby mountains. It exerts almost no influence directly over the surrounding countryside and is perhaps the most isolated and insular city in the Fey Coast.
Demographics
As with most cities in the Fey Coast, the majority of the inhabitants are human, half-elves, and elves. Due to the proximity to the mining communities, modest halfling, gnome, and dwarf communities exist within the city.
Government
Entrance to the City
Entrance to the city requires a Seal of Permanent Residence (Statute 112, Article 1, Section 1), a Seal of Temporary Residence (Statute 112, Article 1, Section 3), a Commerce Visa (Statute 113, Article 1, Section 4), or a Temporary Visitation Visa (Statute 112, Article 1, Section 4). Those without proper documentation may fill out the appropriate forms at one of the outposts, pay the processing fee (4 sp / person, 5 cp / horse), and wait the three days required for processing (Inns are available in the surrounding areas). Alternatively, one can pay the fine for an immediate issue of a Visa at 2 gp / per, 2 sp / horse and obtain a Visa good for two eightdays.Defences
A sharp and stark city wall surrounds the city, nearly 30 feet high, although few actual guard towers are seen.
Industry & Trade
Employment in Aglarond is dominated by the surrounding mines, and includes large management conglomerates that facilitate the operations of the smaller mines, as well as refining, processing of gem stones, creation of jewelry for export, and support for the industry (blacksmiths, wheelwrights, coopers, inns and clothiers, etc.). Beyond the mines, there is an upper class of learned professionals that serve as the bureaucratic workforce of not only the city, but the Fey Coast in general. Most large companies and indeed many of the larger cities depend on the scribes of Aglarond to maintain their books, ensure their compliance with local codes and regulations, and assist with legal matters should they arise.
Within the city governance itself, there is a strict and rigid civil service system in place that is accessible to any citizen. Many residents have their children attend specialized schools several days a week to train for civil service positions within the bureaucracy of the city and the Senate, their acceptance into the system all but ensuring a stable and comfortable, if not overly prosperous, life. Tenure in the system is achieved after five years of service.
Banks
Bank of Ashera is the bank of the middle class - merchants, well-off shop owners, warehouses, and the like. It is located in Temple district and is made of plain brick and mortar, with a clean, functional interior but nothing overly fancy. The Bank of Aglarond caters to more official, governmental affairs, but is located in the Paper District, in territory occupied by the Sun Eyes.Inns
All inn patrons are assessed a 2 cp/nt tax according to Statute 42, Article 5, Section 14a. The Prancing Badger - owned by Tona Brandy, a male human, 47, slightly out of shape and with a salt and pepper captain Picard look. A slightly upscale establishment, with not only long wooden tables and benches in the common room, but a few smaller round tables with high-backed chairs and a few with cushions by the fireplace. There are actual decorations on the wall - a few paintings, a small tapestry. The bar is well polished, if worn. Other establishments include The Four Crowns and The Patient Petitioner.Blacksmiths/Armorers
Battered Anvil in the Plains District. Ashera's Blade, located in the Plains District, is owned by Bremmen, a male half-orc of middle years with a big gut and tattoos on both of his tusks. He looks intimidating, speaking with very few, simple words but is very polite.
