Fortress of Acuity
The Fortress of Acuity rests atop a volcanic crag on a narrow peninsula that juts out on the Northern coast of Vastrya. It is nestled on a crag just few hundred paces from the cliffside overlooking the Spectral Bay.
Faction that runs this Citadel is named the Acuity Enclave. The Fortress is respected as an independent fortress separate to any neighbouring countries and governments and is treated as such.
Hierarchy
The Enclave operates on three main ranking systems. The first is a Sage Rank which is the official
command ranking/hierarchy which basically is what everyone focuses on/command structure is focused
around. Sage Rank is based on studies completed along with time/experience spent working/studying
with the Enclave. The other ranking system is basically an Arcanite Power Grade which is basically
assigned to you by The Council of Elder Sages when you join and re-evaluated every 5 years following.
Its mostly judged on the whims of The Council so often non “pure” magical sources warlocks,
necromancers and illusionary is generally underrated also. Magic of these types tend to be assigned
lower ranks/shunned or avoided (often pursed independently/within niche/secretive groups however), the
third ranking being an Expeditionary Class which is basically entirely word of mouth and is loosely
based on number of expeditions done/length of the expeditions. This class system is mostly out of game
just to help you understand/describe characters.
Sage rank - Initiate Sage, Minor sage, Sage, Great Sage, Elder Sage
- Initiate Sages - called “Initiates” lowest of newcomers must complete a full year of training to progress to minor sage, mostly cleaning and sorting duties limited to the fortress
- Minor Sages - do the work and general duties of full sages but exclusively as assistants, always work under supervision/direct instructions also looked down on but not as much as Initiate sages (think year 10s) must spend 5 years as an Minor Sage to be allowed the opportunity to undergo evaluation by a Council member or its delegates and if deemed capable then they progress to Sage, generally most people spend 6 or 7 years as a Minor Sage as opposed to the minimum 5, because unless majority of free time is spent studying its hard to fulfill the necessary course requirements
- Sages - fully trained sage, generally work within one of the studies conducting research, recording events/occurrences then creating memorabililia/literature and after enough experience gained often teaching/instructing the lower ranks. Sages can submit an application to the Council and its delegated associates to get a job or role within the Enclave or to indulge in a new area of research/expedition. A large number of sages stop progressing here and don't pursue Great Sage Rank as life as a sage is fairly autonomous, however in order to progress to Great Sage you must have a minimum of 30 years of experience, you must have completed “multiple” (undefined) expeditions and have reasonable understanding of at least three different studies as well as an In Depth understanding of one study. Again upon meeting theses requirements you can present your application in front of the council and then progress to Great Sage.
- Great Sage - also do a lot of the same stuff as regular sages however great sages are granted perpetual permission to initiate new expeditions/studies under the assumption that they are already on the same page with the council regarding what are logical pursuits.
- Elder Sage - all Council members obtain the rank of Elder Sage and keep this rank even if they no longer have their seat on the Council. Elder Sages are in charge of managing the Enclave as well as its overall direction/ethic that it takes within the world/as a “faction”. Elections for Elder Sages are initiated every 4 years on a democratic/class based system, Each member of the Council may nominate either themselves or another Great Sage to take their place.
- Necromancy is considered to be downright off limits to morals and is downright illegal to practice, however literature and magical artifacts of necromantic nature do exist within the Fortress but are only available to Great Sages under the presumption of obtaining a better understanding
- Illusionary magic is consider weak and deceitful and hence lesser or even immoral, not considered worth studying
- Enchantment is absolutely deceitful in a harmful way and is considered immoral and is shunned however not considered weak and is studied but not taught
- Transmutation and Abjuration are considered the middle ground levels of magic both studied and taught
- Divination and conjuration are considered to be high level magic and are generally pushed to be both studied and taught
- Evocation is considered to be the purest most powerful form of magic, evocation is both studied and taught but higher level training is considered a privilege and a responsibility and isn't made available to everyone.
Assets
The Fortress' greatest asset is their wealth of knowledge stored in the great library of the Acuity Vault that is not rivalled anywhere in Velaria.
Guilds and Factions
The Acuity Enclave has an agreement with the neighbouring Vastryan Lighthand Clan that allows the Fortress to remain independent whilst being protected by the Lighthand Clan . In return the people of the Lighthand Clan receive specific information and research from the Acuity Enclave .
Architecture
The Fortress is primarily made of traditional wood and stone, adorned with white banners and decorations, denouncing the populations tendency towards neutrality.
