The Invasion of Tauton

The Invasion of Tauton began in 1458 of my worlds timeline (today being the first day of the year 1462). The Arden were a displaced people from the Qiram nation who had been deposed from their familial dynasty as the country become a Demarchy(a similar governmental system to that of the ancient greeks).

Exile

The previously ruling Arden family were given a choice to surrender any claims and lands for what the new government considered a fair price and be watched by the intelligence services of the Qiram for the rest of their lives or they were instead exiled with what they could carry. Amalee Arden, youngest female of the main family line decided that she would lead those among her household that would follow her into exile where she could consolidate power and return at the head of a larger army to retake her familial lands and return the rulership to it's rightful owners.

The Journey East

The armada of ships carrying knights and their horses, retainers, lords and servants headed East until they reached the land of Tauton. Initial scout forays looked positive for the Arden as the Tauton people, at least those on the coast, appeared to be farmers and fishermen. The initial landing and assaults on the coastal Tauton were successful and the Tauton appeared to scatter before the Arden heavy knights, what the Arden did not realise at that point was that the Tauton were retreating in good order and were delaying the Arden for the arrival of their own forces.

Defeat

As the Tauton tribesmen arrived and began forming battlelines the Arden laughed and cheered as the Tauton had no heavy cavalry that could match their own and they predicted a rout followed by the crushing defeat of the Tauton people and their enslavement and conscription into the Arden armies. The Arden heavy cavalry rode out with glittering armour and flying pennants to destroy their foe but as they sped from a canter to a charge the Tauton lines split and half a dozen Tauton foot knights in unusual armour stepped from the ranks and began sweeping silver staffs that spat fire over the charging Arden forces, at close range the glittering beams cut through heavy armour and flesh with the same ease and the Arden charge fell apart in disarray and the remaining knights fled back to their own lines. Of the 300 knights in that fated charge less than 70 returned and the Arden immediately took up a defensive position when they realised they could not match these new forces.

Aftermath

Marshall Amalee surrendered to the Kabaka (Warrior-King) of the Tauton people shortly after, the Arden forces were absorbed into the Tauton armies and the Arden were allowed to maintain a small area on the Northern coast that they have now been charged to defend. Amalee has made several attempts to find the source of the weapons and armour the Tauton used that day but has had no success so far as no Arden has been allowed to travel any further South and any spies despatched have not returned.
