Sashet

History

The location of Sashet is one that has been historically used as a trading post, supply site for travelers, and a seasonal resting area for nomadic peoples. In fact, many people did not live there year-round until the tribes began to unify into the Ahknan coalition. It grew in size until it's come to house a small neighborhood of around 90,000 permanent homes, and over 10,000 people stopping by in only parts of the year.

Architecture

Most of the permanent buildings are made of cut sandstone or mud brick. Most of these have thatched roofs supported by wood, with good ventilation for releasing smoke from in-house fires. Many don't have doors, and have simple covers to the thresholds, such as wooden planks or thick curtains.

Geography

Sashet was founded on an area of dry, grassy plains. The town lies west of a small mountain range that borders the Mojcoki and Hatchani regions. Sashet is a three days' walk from the mountains, and along the way are hills covered in wildflowers, dry shrubs, and large stones.A lake is nearby that's just small enough to be of little tidal effect on the town, and a small stream forms yearly from the rainy seasons. Sometimes, in years of greater rainfall, a smaller lake will form from that stream downhill. It's formation is a local symbol of good luck and a good season, and so it is called Ata-kalal, meaning "half-lake" or Kalal'na vhartol, or "lucky lake." These lakes provide the town with fresh water.
