Divine
The title is given to the supreme leader of The Chantry.
The Divine is revered as a living saint, as were all her predecesors.
Appointment
It is customary for a Divine to name her successor before her death, but this does not guarantee their ascension. Upon the death of the current Divine, every Anointed Mother and Grand Cleric is required to travel to Aslod for the Grand Consensus. There, they elect a new Divine from among themselves, or choose another member from any branch of the Chantry. The vote must be unanimous for a new Divine to be properly elected.
The Divine must always be female.
Duties
The Divine is the head of both The Chantry and of The Spell-Breakers.
The duties of the Divine include the well-being of the The Chantry and the organisations which are affiliated with it as well as the further spreading of the Chantry's message in the known world.
However, if a Divine is too senile to rule, then her role is largely ceremonial and the Fist of the Divine rules in hear stead.

Accoutrements & Equipment
There are two crucial pieces of equipment that have been handed down through the ages to the Divine. One is a pair of crowns - one fashioned from pure, polished silver, and adorned with stained green glass in the shape of olive leaves, the other fashioned from black obsidian, twisted and spiked. The former is worn in times of peace; when the Spellbreakers have not taken up arms on a crusade against one nation or faction, and are in a time of relative stability. The latter, worn few times in the history of the Spellbreakers, is only worn during times of war or great crusade - one example being the Staldor-Spellbreaker war.
Additionally, each Divine wields the sword forged during the Rune Wars for the first Divine, Justinia The First. Its blade is forged from pure petricite, and the hilt is enchanted with wards that protect the whole sword-wielding arm of the individual. Justinia slayed one of the great Dark Mages that wielded a Runestone during the Rune Wars using this blade. Afterwards, it has been passed down to each Divine, both as a badge of office and as a weapon of personal protection and use.
