The Great Rift

Geological / environmental event

24HE

The ithsmus connecting Egera and Vrudias collapses, separating the two continents.

Beginning several years prior, earthquakes and geological instability wrack the region. For the people of Egera, this is of little concern, the mountain rages make this region largely inaccessible to them.   However, the earthquakes grow in size as time passes and can be felt far inland, causing rockslides in the mountains and massive tsunamis at the coast.   In 6982, an entire mountain collapses into the sea, as though swallowed by a massive sinkhole. The capital city of Garamor, Anira, on the northeastern coast, is completely destroyed in the fallout, as is most of the kingdom.   The region is abandoned by the people of Egera and communication with Vrudias is cut off. Over the next 10 years more and more land falls into the ocean, and no one is able to discover the reason.   Theories abound about dwarven settlements beneath the mountains causing instability in the area, about magical experiments gone horribly awry, and about the wrath of the gods punishing the dwarves and the other people of Vrudias for a multitude of sins. To this day the true cause of the disaster is unknown, although contact by ship has been reestablished between the two continents.
