Atakebune (Armoured Ships)
Surrounding the port city Dejima is possibly the biggest fleet of ships on the entire island. Iron plated and equipped for war these things could blast a hole in a another ship's brig and then shrug off two cannonballs before a drop of water touched the lower decks. If you want to feel safe on the ocean and Atakebune is the way to go. That is as long as you're willing to pay ridiculous fees to get one.
Propulsion
Masts, able to be steered to harness the wind. Additionally there is a rowing deck, but it is for emergency scenarios.
Weapons & Armament
They have two cannons, one on each side, and there is a storage compartment on the main deck with the express purpose of holding weapons, enough for a sword/spear and a bow for each sailor on the ship. Often, in the lower hold, the ships also carry barrels of gunpowder which can be used in combat in the right situations.
Armor and defense
Plated on all outer sides with iron, and the skeleton is doubly reenforced with metal. There is always scrap metal in storage to be used for repairs of the ship.
Communication Tools & Systems
Though they lack traditional communication systems, many have fitted these ships with a diviner who uses magic to communicate with other ships. With a single person you can not only gain information about enemy ships, you can also contact allies and stay informed about the situation. The best part is that you can easily keep one in the captain's hold, where they have plenty of space for rituals, and they are in arguably the safest place on the ship.
