Biryst

Byrist, a self contained town on the shattered island just south of lower heldan, is one of the few settlements in heldan that do not directly interact with the rest of the nation. The town is rather large, and has turned most of the surrounding area into farm land. Because of this many of its inhabitants are fed and live off of the food that is grown locally. They also have access to a modest mountain range which is rich with many valuable metals, allowing the town to forge their own equipment and tools. Byrist also has no official leader, the people have come to a rather pleasant understanding with each other and every works for the mutual benefit of others.

Demographics

Like many places it is mostly inhabited by humans, however there are a good amount of other mixed races here, you will likely see not only humans, but dwarves, elves, halflings, gnomes, and even some other rarer peoples such as the small group of friendly half orcs living here.

Government

The people of Byrist are the government, they hold frequent meetings where the heads of each household come together and discuss if the people feel like something needs to change, address issues the town is suffering from, and handle all other matters concerning the people of Byrist.

Defences

The people of Byrist have decided that all men must server as the towns militia from the age of 20 until they turn 40. While someone is serving they're 20 years in the militia, the other people will aid that family if the loss of their son to the military hurts their ability to run their life.

Infrastructure

Byrist is pleasantly simple in its design. Stone roads pave the path around the town, and most buildings are simply wooden houses that a family built to stay in. Because of this each house has some amount of individuality to it, someone who decided to build themselves a larger house would simply have a larger house then someone who decided that they didn't need as much space to live in.
