Juna

Schecter20
A brief description of Juna, the Capital city of Ecura.

Demographics

Population is unevenly distributed in Juna. The poor occupy the most space in a shanty town right in the centre of the City. Around this shanty town the villas of the rich surround the poor; doctors, lawmen, the barracks, the treasury and the Lord Rulers' house.

Government

A democratic government is not in place today in Juna. There is a Lord council in place who take care of the day to day running of Juna, while only matters of significant importance are put forward to the Lord Ruler. This allows for major corruption as the only one to allow passing of laws and justice is the Lord Ruler, and if it is not brought to his attention, he doesn't know about it.

Defences

Coastal City with high, thick walls. Barracks. Gate and portcullis. Gatehouse to monitor who arrives and departs.

Industry & Trade

There is both industry and trade present in Juna. Industry is represented by the ship builders around the port, the numerous smiths, and the weavers. Trade is represented by the market district in the middle of the city. It was established in this spot so both rich and poor could buy and have access to food and wares. Importation and exportation is primarily done around the port but Juna imports and exports to almost everywhere in Ecura - It's the capital after all.

Infrastructure

This coastal city has a port, sewers, roads, courtyards, blacksmiths and engineers, weavers, and a mansion for the Lord Ruler to live in. The circular layout of Juna and distribution of wealth are represented by high rising buildings around the outskirts progressively declining in size the further towards the centre one may venture.

Assets

Blacksmiths and Engineers. Barracks. Treasury.

Guilds and Factions

Many Guilds and Factions are present in Juna. Notable ones include the Lord's Council, the Smiths guild and the Devotees of Antissa. Some Illegal factions may operate within the city but since there are no public records or proof of their legitimate existence, they are not eligible to be named here.

History

Juna started life as one of the settlements founded by the Treaty of Forgiveness and assigned to Alba. Alba granted himself the title of Lord Ruler and he ruled absolutely. No council of advisors were present during his reign. Alba worked to make his settlement a prosperous fortress despite the promise of peace held by the Treaty. Building on the coast meant the enemy could only attack from limited directions.   His home was constructed and rennovated countless times over the millenia by succeeding Lord Rulers, until it grew to the mansion proportions it is today. Albas' line ruled for 364 years, during this time there was peace and Lord Rulers put a focus on making it a trade giant. The port was built during this period and the population began to grow.     Today, Juna is the largest, most prosperous city in Ecura. Despite being the capital, it is not held in high regard among other tribe leaders and settlements throughout history. Other leaders of the settlements through the years have seen his city prosper due to its' geographical location, not through hard diplomatic work. The lord Ruler position is associated with laziness and ineptitude by other settlement leaders as the Lord Rulers' position doesn't directly deal with leadership, yet they gain the power and status regardless. In the eyes of other Settlement leaders, and certain branches of the shanty town residents, having a bad leader is better than having an absent or disinterested one.

Architecture

The outer circle is the wealthiest area of Juna. The houses and buildings there rival skyscrapers you're even capable of imagining. Stacked upwards towards the sky, they make the city look prosperous but also intimidating.   The inner circle is what would be considered the middle class. Petite cottages and bungalows that spread out instead of stretch upwards, this section is smaller than the outer circle and centre of Juna as there is only a very limited number of middle class residents.   In the centre of the city is the largest and poorest of the areas. Shanty towns sprawl from the centre out, the poorest of the poor living shoulder to shoulder and back to back. The colour of the huts are all different and no two are alike because they're constructed out of all manner of materials.

Geography

Juna is located on the east coast of Ecura leaving only a small patch of land between the city and its' port. The land surrounding the City is flat and there isn't much flora or extravagant fauna to be found nearby. if approaching from the west it is a few miles outside the thick, dense midland forests.
