The Church of Metaism

The Church of Metaism is a new religious movement that was founded by Anna Marie Judd in 21 AE in Vinford, WV, in response to rising metahumans. Its reach is mostly throughout the Southern United States. The church teaches that metahumans are chosen by God to be the next step in evolution and are commonly called Homo Superior in the church’s texts and propaganda. The movement spread through a propaganda comic book called “Superior Man,” about a God fearing superhero that fights the embodiments of the seven sins.
Anna Marie Judd was formerly a charismatic radio host at WMRM, a local station, before she was fired for spreading her beliefs on air. However, many people that listened to the radio station when she was on air donated money to her to start her church. At first Judd preached her sermons at an abandoned church, however eventually she was able to purchase the land the church was on.
David Starfield, a graphic novel author, had heard from a friend about this small church. Starfield, inspired by Judd’s charisma and force of personality, decided to write the Superior Man comic series. After the series blew up, the church ideologies also exploded, leading to Judd getting a television spot as a televangelist.
The Church of Metaism believes that metahumans are the downfall of normal humans and that only metahumans will go to heaven. The church supports metahumans and strives to make more by putting young church members in danger to unlock their power. This is considered very controversial, and the church has faced a lot of public backlash. Several hit pieces by Freida Fricult have been published trying to ruin the church’s reputation.
