Facsimile Cities | E. Christopher Clark

Facsimile Cities

Facsimile Cities are Edenian settlements which are near-perfect copies of American cities that the goddess Phina visited time and again, across multiple iterations of reality, in the time before she created this purgatorial paradise.

Each of the five regions in Eden is home to two of these peculiar settlements, for a total of ten facsimile cities in all.

Nunya

Nunya, the northernmost territory in Eden, is home to:

  1. Chelmsdale, a copy of the city of Chelmsford, Massachusetts
  2. Kirbyville, a copy of the city of New York, New York

Oz

Oz, the westernmost territory, is home to:

  1. Newest Orleans, a copy of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana
  2. Emerald City, a copy of the city of San Francisco, California

Nalké

Nalké, the centermost territory, is home to:

  1. The Garden, a copy of the neighboring cities of Poipu and Koloa, Hawaii
  2. Mosmibí Goost, a copy of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Wonderland

Wonderland, the southernmost territory, is home to:

  1. Sorgia, a copy of the town of Harwich, Massachusetts
  2. F.U., a copy of the city of Los Angeles, California

The Reek

The Reek, the easternmost territory, is home to:

  1. Tünlaun, a copy of Denver, Colorado
  2. Matharkata Flaw, a copy of Chicago, Illinois whose name means "bear's roar" in the language of Thünard, which we are mentioning here because we will forget otherwise

The Reek has also been home to Reekian London since the Second Age, but as that city was built by mortal beings and not by either of the goddesses—the aforementioned Phina and her sister Mira—it is not considered a true facsimile city.

Thank you! I think that was the first one I came up with, back in the day, and when I was writing this I had to retcon it into this group.

I'm thinking it might be short for "El Pueblo del Desierto que es Más Caliente que el Fuego de una Mujer Despreciada"

Kirbyville is still my favorite.   I would find it a little funny if a secret small town got added at some point, "_____ is a copy of Bar Harbor, ME. The whole city got copied because Phina couldnt get a lone ice cream shop on the coast to look quite right."

Feel free to stop by some of my WorldEmber articles if you want. My favorites are The Book of the Unquiet Dead, Outpost of the Moons, and The Emerald Hills. Feedback is always appreciated.

Oh my god, yes. That is happening. I don't know how yet, but this must be canon.

Since they are exact replicas do they get the crime and other big city problems of the originals?

Ah, good point. I should probably clarify. It's the buildings and the landscape that are replicated. What people do with it once they arrive might be entirely different.

This is fun. I love the different names. I think Newest Orleans might be my favourite.
